The part about viruses being added to packaged meats came about a few years ago. I DID go to a government website to see if it were true ... And it is.
The reasoning being that a very small number of the population was sensitive to something, and the viruses are supposed to prevent those folks...
I may have missed some posts about your ducks/ducklings dying but ... NINE??? That seems very odd to me. Waterfowl are so hardy, normally. I don't usually see them keel over from stress?
I would almost think there must be a disease process or, more likely, something they are eating? Can they be...
Ummmm ... LOL, if the "ewwwwww" was for me, seriously, it's not THAT bad. :)
It's been mostly gutted since then and much of it is new ... Drywall, carpet (what little there is), tile, cabinets, appliances, and all that. By the folks before me. Then it sat closed up for a couple of years. The...
I seriously have to try this. I love my own laundry soap (finally got a really pleasing mix/amount of lavender and orange oils -- 3:5 -- in it to suit me!) I usually use a lot of pine cleaner and oil soap rather than the more expensive mixed cleaners anyway, but when you said "repels bugs" you...
I don't know that this would be ANY help at all, but ...
I have serious moles. Everywhere. And I worry about the rabbits with the heat. I keep a fan on my rabbits in the summer, and they are in deep shade. I set up a mister there too, which lowered the temp considerably AND softened/moistened...
Well, everything gets "recycled".
I'd still not like to drink urine, even though the water I drink every day probably was, at some point. Call me crazy but ... To me, there IS a difference!
(and I know where my poo goes ... Into the septic, that gets sprayed on the grass, that gets eaten by...
That's disgusting. Reminds me of a futuristic book I once read where they all lived underground and food was made from all sorts of processed remains (human, rat, etc) and refuse. Disgusting.
Sigh ... It is disgusting. Fortunately I don't think I buy anything made by Pepsico, Kraft, or Nestle anymore anyway. Guess that makes my "boycott" pointless to them.
It makes me think of something I recently learned. A friend was telling me that some restaurants where she worked, they would...
I would take the keets out and supervise them, not leave them alone. They seemed happy to stay in the cover of the garden and not venture across short grass, so they were safer. I keep my baby birds in a pen with hawk netting over the top otherwise, and lock them up a night.
I wish mine would...
I'm more able to say what NOT to buy.
I got those black rubber boots with red toes at Wal-Mart last year for about $22. DO NOT buy these!!!!! Zero support (which would be nice) but even worse they cracked after a few wearings. I feel very cheated.
I saw some slip-ons at TSC. They were on...
Yup, mine are getting in the house too, here and there.
Can you let the chickens in? Or will they destroy your garden? I don't really trust chckens there, which is why I used keets/ducklings. But I call the chickens into the backyard to chase them, and I'd say after a week of doing that they...
You can post photos, now that your post count is over 10. I'm just not very good at it, or I'd tell you how. I upload mine to photobucket then use a link in my post, which will show the photo.
We are having a literal plague of grasshoppers. I thought they were bad last year (and they were) but this year ...
I can walk across the yard, and so many hop up that it feels like it is raining grasshoppers. You can't walk anywhere without them hitting you all over. I honestly don't know how...
Not a particularly great day.
I always keep a close eye on the weather, but sometime overnight there actually built up some rain. Luckily I woke early, heard the thunder, and made it out to tarp the two RB that are still on their sides. A few drops fell, enough to get wet, then it stopped. Not...
Thanks OF. It does sound by our gardens that we are in different climates. No way could I grow carrots right now. And rye here won't sprout other times I'm told (or if it does it browns off and dies) but it's SUPPOSED to grow around Oct-Nov then stay green till very late spring. I've grown it as...
I don't have any great advice to add ... Too bad your husband doesn't understand how you feel?
But HUGS ... I hope things get better and it does sound like it can be stress-related. That kind of thing can feed on itself in a cycle within a marriage so ... Hopefully you can get some...
Yah, you probably did more than I would do. I usually squeeze it out, wash with soap and water, apply antibiotic ointment if I think necessary, and bandage if necessary. Open it up to air later, if I do cover it.
I use arnica if I expect deep bruising.
You mentioned vaccines? Is there any...
$25 RB is unheard-of here, except straw or last year's hay. And I don't have to worry about alfalfa -- it won't grow here. I worry about my rabbits getting too much though.
I'm not sure if there's seed in it, but I normally grow Bermuda and clover anyway, and I planted rye last winter but it...
I know my little doe fooled me. I had them all running together, since I had READ it was past breeding season. And one day I just noticed, "hey, it looks like she's getting an udder!". I think I had only a couple weeks' notice that a kid was coming, and no idea when to expect it!
I hope she recovers. Like you said, when it rains it pours!
Thinking about mutts vs purebred goats. The one I could NEVER get rid of all the worms and stayed anemic was full Alpine, but she appeared healthy otherwise. Her kid was Alpine/Nubian, but just one generation down. He has issues with...
