most likely, it needs dewormer, flea treatment and antibiotics. i have seen kittens come back from things like this, but you have to be very vigilant; they tend to go hypoglycemic the minute they stop eating well.
poor kitty :( regardless, as the others said, at least he's safe and warm for...
honestly he sounds like someone who's noticed the new market of people trying to learn hobby farming, and wants to make a buck off inexperienced people... i understand the need for training a cow to be milked by hand, but he also talks about training the cows to raise their calves... now...
iunno, my BO eggs are noticeably smaller than those from my other hens :D maybe there are different lines with different sized eggs. (qualifier: they aren't -small- eggs by any means, just not as big as eggs can get. BO's can make amazingly beautiful mixed breed chicks though.)
as a sidenote, buff orpingtons are definitely nice birds, but their eggs are a bit small. just something to keep in mind. i get much bigger eggs from my other girls (red sex links, black mixes) but the hens themselves are smaller than the BOs. what i'm trying to do currently is keep a mixed...
we have two basic, cheapie .22lr rifles. they are mainly for target practice (i'd never shot a gun before) and for taking care of the raccoons etc that we catch in live traps, after they've tried to get at my chickens. i'd love to expand and be able to go deer hunting or have a little handgun...
i've seen chickens tuck eggs under their chins and waddle them over whereever they wanna be. one of my broodies is pretty good at figuring out which of her own eggs are duds, and she takes them outside to get them out of the nest. it's kind of amazing.
i -think- you wanna wait until they're mostly grown before you clip any wings, because you don't want to cut their growing pins (blood feathers). it's kinda like cutting a cat or dog's claws too short, they'll bleed like stuck pigs.
glad it's not an issue anymore this time, but, for the future - when you're explaining, try comparing it to the children with peanut allergies. that's gotten to be fairly well-known, and sometimes an analogy can really help put things in perspective for people who've never dealt with it. :)
yay, thank you! this is a project that we're gonna attempt this fall (after the heat breaks) in our garden area. i dread all the digging but hopefully it'll be worth it.
I noticed that when I lived in WA state, -everything- was much more expensive than I'd previously been used to when I lived in VA. Even the household bills were ridiculous. That's (part of) the reason I left the state, it was just too hard to get ahead because the basics cost so much more there...
Ahh okay, yes that makes sense :) I'm naturally teensy, even my bone structure is that of a bird. Don't have any of the anorexia-type symptoms or problems. Doesn't stop the doctors from telling me I'm anorexic though. (Although, it's been probably 10 years since I've gone to a doctor because I...
i'm also extremely underweight by modern standards and have appetite issues. =/ i'd always heard that being underweight was better than overweight though? i'd read something a while back about how people who stop eating when they feel 80% full are statistically healthier than people who eat...
Thank you everyone, you guys are so amazingly helpful :) It looks like 2 of my 3 soup jars have sealed (boo on the last one) but I might just end up giving them to the chickens if the noodles turned as bad as you make me fear. I tend not to be a foodie anyway though, so maybe the taste won't...
