In *my* experience they tend to be much friendlier and nicer than regular banks. See if there is one open to residents of your county, and ask. They can't be worse than a regular bank! And once you are in, you can stay in ... I still have my credit union account from 1995, and hubby has his...
It's been a while since I posted in here, but today felt inspired to look up the Nine Noble Virtues ... and am glad I did. Here's what popped up:

I do believe I like this version best. On the same site, I found a poem for them here and thought to share.
I feel the beginning of...
My sympathies. My herniated disc didn't show on Xray either (according to the regional VA radiologist, fwiw which isn't much IMO). Hope the MRI is much clearer for him, as it is very frustrating to be in pain and have radiology claiming the Xrays are "normal".
This show is being discussed on at least one other board I frequent, and posts this morning say one of the preppers in the first-aired episode has now been declared "mentally defective" and the state of TN has seized all his firearms...
With a name like DOOMSDAY Preppers, I was not expecting anything but the extreme. What I liked about it is that the "experts" they never named reinforced several points I have been making, so hubby is even more supportive. He also subscribed to SouthernPrepper's YouTube channel after watching...
First: Take a deep breath, count slowly to ten however many times you need to, then sit down and open up a dialogue. Hopefully by now, he feels like seven kinds of a fool for getting into this.
Money issues is the single worst thing to poison a relationship ... speaking as one who is...
Unless y'all are active duty military, it is indeed legal. A couple years ago CONgress capped interest for active duty at 35%, due to problems with payday loans/tax return advance/title loans. Before that cap went into effect, I had heard of some local places charging 600-800% interest...
Saw an article in a mainstream news source (USAToday?) earlier this week forecasting a $4.15/g national average (roughly 60c per gallon increase from the price that day) by Memorial Day, so there IS a bit of chatter about it. The undercurrent of commentary referencing that article was basically...
Same here, due to lack of good stock-up loss-leader sales over the winter. :( I'm hoping the brand new grocery chain opening this past week will spur some great competing sales ... I can always dream, right?
If you stick to standard TLDs like a .com or .net or .org, you'll be fine. the subdomain in my example is my blog's name "sewingmissadventure" while the domain is "blogspot" with the TLD being "com". The free wordpress blogs are set up pretty much the same. Since Google bought Blogger and...
Either one can be successful, and either one can languish in obscurity. If you go with a blog platform, people will expect it to updated regularly. If you with static webpages, then people will expect it to have information of value.
Going back to your OP, it sounds like a simple blog will...
Seriously?? Regular domain registration is about $11/yr through NameCheap, then I think they do hosting on a per-month basis if you like (or you can shop around and point your domain to your host's nameserver). Or is that a "package" option with domain registration plus a year of hosting...
Found two financial/budgetary things happening in March: on March 8 the state of California will be broke again unless they find about $3b, and March 20th is the deadline for Greece achieving at least an illusion of fecal coagulation (the cynic in me observes it's only been an illusion for both...
While I can't tell on the timing (hadn't heard the bit about March) all those things are indeed coming at some point. I've been seeing the prices creeping up steadily over the past year at the grocery store, and gasoline stayed stubbornly high over the winter season, which it usually doesn't...
I forgot to mention - I've slept in one of these pavilion tents that belonged to a SCAer - very roomy and stood sturdy in a TN thunderstorm. There were four of us adults in it (and three had garb!) and we had plenty of room.
As someone who lived in one (a GP-small) for months, I don't consider military tents to be very sturdy. What they ARE, is portable and quick setup and teardown once those involved are familiar with the processes. When we stopped jumping around so much in Iraq, we took over existing buildings...
In Kuwait and Iraq, we only had 3-5 in a GP-small, so I'd go with at least a GP-medium for a family of 5, with a "5-man" hex for eating, or a CP tent. The tents are basically just big enough for a cot with a ruck and one duffel underneath per person. Also, have it up on a raised deck. When...
 Current hubby is a good man, so it's cooking. Plus, no one has messed with our house in years - I guess they figured if the 130lb rottweiler we used to have was scared of the "command voice" our "beware of owner" sign meant business.
In my family, a common housewarming gift is a seasoned cast iron skillet ... with the note it can be used for cooking in addition to making a great weapon.
I still have the two skillets Mom gave me when I moved out at age 18 - still use them, have never needed to strip them down.
