    Irene's Thread

There was some flooding in the town next to us, and I didn't realize it because I haven't been out of the house. My friend said his cousin's house is under 5' of water. Yikes. I saw pics on facebook and it doesn't look good. At least it's not as bad as it looks in Vermont. Looks like there...

I did find a couple of downed trees, but they're small (tall but thin) and invasive so good riddance. :P

    Irene's Thread

Morning all! Hooray for daylight! Not much damage here. There's a tree down in the neighboring property to ours, but nothing here it looks like. Rain has slacked off a good bit, but the wind is still sticking around. We lost power for a little over an hour between 4-5AM but then it came...

    Irene's Thread

Had to spend a half hour or so in the basement due to a tornado warning in our area. Nothing happened, thank goodness. Amazingly we still have power (knock on wood!) but lots around us don't. Basement started flooding again due to the *!$)@(#*!@ sump pump float getting stuck AGAIN! :he...

Lights flickered a few minutes ago but are holding strong now. I really don't want to lose power. Geesh. Rain is getting harder and wind is picking up.

Just got back home from a last minute grocery store trip. Can you believe Foodlion no longer sells Twizzlers?!! :rant We're ready and waiting here. All the animals are in the barn. The turkeys are in the back of the pick-up truck (truck has a cap) because they were too big to go in the...

    Damummis'- Auf wiedersehen

Can you lock everyone up in the barn (except what you said you're taking with you) and just leave lots of hay and water? They'll be alright hopefully. Hopefully by the time it reaches y'all it'll have weakened considerably! :fl

That's awesome!! :clap My soap scents should be arriving today, so I'm hoping I can do some soaping as long as we don't lose power.

    Irene's Thread

Ok, I know there is another thread about Irene (and NYC) but I wanted to start one for those of us on the east coast so we could check in. Also, I'd love to hear about where people are located (not too much info, just state) and what you've done to prepare. It's also great if we could check in...

    Damummis'- Auf wiedersehen

Dammummis, where are you? I'm on the Eastern Shore of MD and we could be right in the way of Irene depending on how she goes. They're evacuating the lower part of our county by noon tomorrow. I'm just along for the ride! :D

Calling all goat peeps! Let's talk about CAE...

Yep, I agree with Free. My doe, June, is CAE positive, and I was pretty darn bummed about it when I first found out. I, too, wanted to dam raise, especially after working in the dairy industry and having to pull calves away from cows. I was really excited to have my goat raise her kids, but...

    whole lotta shakin goin on!!!

We felt it here in MD pretty darn good!! Talk about scary!!!! I'm still a little shaken up. The cars were rocking in the parking lot, and my husband was at home in the basement and said the house was shaking over his head!!! My sister and mom felt it in NC (Winston-Salem). That was some...

    Freezer issues, ideas/advice needed

We had an older upright freezer when I was living at home and we had to use a metal strapping thing on it to make sure it stayed shut. It worked. :P

    Pain After Eating Bananas

Hmm..interesting! I just had a CT scan of my chest and they injected iodine and I didn't have any weird reactions (other than the weird "warming" sensation that's normal with iodine). I stopped eating bananas though. :P I'm "glad" to know there is someone else out there who knows what I'm...

    Good and bad problem...

Spatchcocking the chickens (or turkeys) will really help you fit LOTS more in the freezer!!

Are these plants toxic to goats?

Don't assume goats won't eat toxic plants. Sometimes they don't know any better. It's best to remove them completely just to be safe. :)
