We May Want to Start Stocking up on Petroleum Products

The price of oil affects nearly everything... building supplies, food, and clothing come to mind immediately.

    Are you ready for winter?

Yes! Come on cooler weather! :D Actually, the only winter preparation we have is to get firewood. We won't order that until October. But I do have a list of "cooler weather" projects including coating the roof at the cabin and painting the inside. We'd also like to put some insulation up into...

    Do you ever . . .

Yeah, I would love to just be left alone for the rest of my life, quietly gardening, living a simple life. But problems don't go away simply by ignoring them. And the U.S. has a BIG problem. Do I think the S hitting TF is going to be something of Biblical proportions? No. But an economic...

    Do you ever . . .

I believe TSHTF will be an economic collapse. Do I want it to happen? Yes and no. I really think it's going to happen, so sometimes, yes, I wish it would just happen already so we could regroup and get on with our new lives. But no, I don't want anyone, including people better off than me, to...

    WHO has converted to CFLs??

I have switched back to incandescents (and stocking up - have a good supply stashed away already). The CFLs are a bunch of baloney if you ask me... expensive to buy, haven't cut my power bill back a single dime, don't fit into my fixtures, don't last as long as they are supposed to, and can't be...

    Building a cob home

Does anyone remember Barbra Streisand in the movie A Star Is Born? She had a really cool house out west somewhere.... I don't know if it was a genuine cob home, but it was very cool.

Farmfresh City Homesteader - the sound of falling oaks.

I loved my Barbie dolls when I was a kid. I had a ton of beautiful clothes that my mom sewed for my birthday one year. I still get weepy :hit remembering the day I finally gave them all away (including my Barbie motorhome! argh!) to some neighbor girls... but I guess at 14 years old it was time...

Freemotion's food journal: Expanding the gardens, pics p 53

I had a carb feast myself this weekend... tuna noodle casserole. Your garden is GORGEOUS!!! I can't wait to get my fall/winter stuff in the ground. I have also never had any luck with green peppers, they just don't thrive, and I didn't even try any this summer. But I read a tip a month or so...

    Ouch! Hot Pepper fingers!

I know you can flush your eyes out with milk when they get pepper burn (from rubbing your eyes). Maybe soaking your fingers in milk would work too.

    First canning attempt

One more tip... make sure the water in your canning pot is at least 1" over the top of your jars. Oh, and if you use just a regular stock pot without a rack, put a dish towel in the bottom of the pot.

    JRmom - Garden is in!

They did offer up $100 for the lost food. The did NOT offer any help in the clean up, but they did haul off the 5 bags of grossness in their truck... that stuff was NOT going into the trunk of my car. :sick I think the worse part is I don't think they would have ever 'fessed up, but they left...

    JRmom - Garden is in!

...when you have friends. :barnie (subtitled: Oh Woe Is Me!) I feel like all I have done in this journal lately is complain, so I'll make this brief and then talk about something positive. Went to the cabin on Friday afternoon (hadn't been there in 3 weeks). The first thing I always do is turn...

    Wish me Luck!

:lau If you called him that to his face, he would probably have no idea what you meant, but you'd feel a heck of a lot better! Oh, and good luck!
