    Help with Struggling Reader(s)

I don't have any advice really, but just wanted to comment on the homework. :ep That's a whole lotta homework! The only homework my daughter had in the 3rd grade was spelling words. I agree with Leta about seeing what you can do to cut it down, and out completely in the case of your youngest...

Toulle - a turn of the worm?

You remind me of my brother! :D He works for UF/IFAS and is a mosquito expert. He was even on Good Morning America a few years ago...talking about mosquitoes! What a geek!:lau In a good way of course!

Nourishing Traditions and other Recipes for a Better Health

@Bubblingbrooks - have you ever noticed (and I'm sure you have!) that the Africans that still live in the bush have the most beautiful teeth? ETA: Minus toothpaste too!

cast iron dutch oven, which kind?

I really don't know, that's pretty big! Have you checked the Lodge website? Also, you might do an internet search for Wagner lids.

cast iron dutch oven, which kind?

Don't say spider to a Griswold collector! Have only seen one with the spider logo and they wanted $1,200.00 for it.

Toulle - a turn of the worm?

Just learned this trick.... if you add a couple of tablespoons of veggie oil (which will sit on the top of the water), it deters mosquitoes.

cast iron dutch oven, which kind?

That's just the tip of the ice burg. :D My husband and I are collectors, we have pretty much one of everything, and multiples of quite a few. I use most of it. We are the "skillet flippers" you see at flea markets and such. :lau

cast iron dutch oven, which kind?

If you think you'll be using it mostly in the kitchen, forget the legs. Also, before buying new, you might want to check around at flea markets and such. I have 4 Griswold dutch ovens, and the most I paid was $45 for one, the others I got a better deal on. I also have large enameled cast iron...

    ...

Smoking is a preservation method I'd like to learn more about. Anyone here do it on a large scale for meat preservation? Canning meat is another method that I've never tried. It just has an "ick" factor to me for some reason, probably unfounded. I should just go ahead and try it.

    JRmom - Garden is in!

When I finally showered this morning after getting the first half done, I had to use a whole handful of conditioner on my hair... beggar weeds stuck in my hair! They did not come out easily. Will go in and try to tackle the fence after the sun gets down a bit. Wish it was cool enough for long...

    Corn-y questions, help please......

Yep, I have. Leave in the husks, wrap tightly with newspaper, and stick it in the freezer. I had great success with that method (disclaimer though: it was only in the freezer a 3-4 months).

    Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

Breaking a child's will? Really? Good grief. My daughter breast fed her first child for 2 years, and the other 2 for over a year. They are wonderful kids, extremely bonded with mom. :thumbsup for breast feeding!

    JUSTUSNAK...Summer coming to an end!?

Even if you don't care too much about the power company knowing when you turn on a lamp, it's still too much Big Brother, and that should bother everyone. Our meter was changed out about a year ago. Hmmmm, gonna have to check it out.

    JRmom - Garden is in!

This is half of my garden - cleared and ready for compost in only 30 minutes.... And this is the other half. :ep See the fence? Yeah, barely. The soaker hose on this half (for my sweet potatoes) had a blow out and has been spewing water into the vacant wooded lot behind me. Now my fence line...

After losing everything in my freezer at the cabin (including produce from the garden :hit ) I'm leery of depending on it again. I know I won't be packing it full of stuff from the garden again.

Stocking Up, Putting Back, Prepping = Paranoia?

The meth.... out of control. We can smell it sometimes at our cabin. Not sure if someone is cooking it or just smoking. When we take our dogs out to the forest to run, we find empty boxes of Sudafed all the time. And in town, the neighbors behind us are meth users, with a young daughter no less...
