Typical middle class childhood. Oldest of 3 kids. Dad worked, mom was a housewife. We raised and showed Arabs (that is probably a bit un-typical) so we always lived out in the country with some acerage. Always a menagerie of animals (although I was never allowed to have a goat). :(
My dad grew...
Mine's been going steady for 4 days now! :D
Just made up a small jar of dried plum tomatoes, garlic, oregano, thyme and garlic... I think it's gonna be pizza time later this week.
I just got a new one, the Nesco Gardenmaster... and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. My hubs ordered it through Sears. I think Nesco makes this version for the retail stores because it came with 8 trays instead of the 4 it normally comes with. It also came with 8 mesh inserts for small stuff and 8 inserts...
I have quite a few of those, mine are Mason's Improved - but I only use them for storing dry goods as mine are pretty old and I wouldn't trust the lid. I had no idea you could still buy the rubber rings. Hmmm, maybe I should try canning in one, the lid comes off anyway after it seals. Or maybe...
It's illegal here in Florida to use grey water, which kinda teed me off when I found out. But after thinking about it, our water table is very close to the surface, so there's not much filtering before it gets right into our water supply.

1. Keljonma's Tomato/Jalapeno Jam - Super delicious, I've been making it with green tomatoes.
2. Sweet Pickle Relish from Ball's Blue Book - I hate soggy relish, but love this recipe, it stays nice and crunchy.
3. Grapefruit Jelly - I took a basic jelly recipe and substituted my own grapefruit...
Yesterday, plum and roma tomatoes, and grapes (won't do grapes again, they took forever, but they are super yummy). On tap for today, sweet peppers, jalapenos, and seranos.
Glad Lee didn't hammer you, that was one slow moving storm. Our temps are down just a tiny bit, but the humidity is back in force. From what I understand, it's perfectly legal to make your own booze as long as you're "licensed"... for some reason I don't see you running down to the court house...
This is the recipe I've been using... keljonma passed it along to me. The first time I made it, I followed it exactly. Since then I've added more jalapenos (I like it HOT), and used less sugar.
Tomato Jam
6 large tomatoes (about 4 pounds), cored and quartered
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup grated...
