How strong are child labor laws...?

Just paid a few kids to rake leaves for $2. They were cute and enterprising. So, I decided to help them along. Don't worry, will rerake tomorrow. Hey, they're kids. Doubt their work is that great.

I think it is cheaper based on transportation costs. It is feasible to either ride my bike or take a bus almost everywhere. Though people may argue, you don't have to own a car or only one car per household. As for buying a house, you actually have to buy a house. This will not happen for me...

Sorry, will cut down on the calculations. One of those math orientated people. Forget not everyone is into calculations. Coincidentally, I am always amazed at those people that can throw together a 20 page paper in 2-3 hours and still get an A. It literally took me weeks to write a paper in...

MOVE!! What did you do to workout today?

I was really referring to everyone in general who complain about the cold and say you don't understand in CA. I may not understand cold but I do heat. We had our first 100 degree day in April this year and our last in the end of September. Really should stop complaining. We are predicted...

MOVE!! What did you do to workout today?

It got down to 51 this morning. A few weeks ago it was down to about 45. That was a cold morning! Give me a break, i'm from CA. Bet you couldn't handle 100 degree weather with dignity.

Made some homemade laundry detergent...LOVE IT!!!

I saw a detergent recipe that used absorbic acid. It could be used in place of Cascade. I do have some trepidation using borox in dishwashing detergent. Its highly toxic if ingested. Does the dishwasher rinse it off throughly?

MOVE!! What did you do to workout today?

Brrrr!!! It is too cold for me to start working outside. Lately, been having a hard time becoming motivated in the morning. However, if I tell you the temp here you will all laugh at me.

Made some homemade laundry detergent...LOVE IT!!!

She was probably using either two much or something beside the standard white distilled vinger. It should just was out with the rinse water. If not, you can do rinse cycle twice. Never noticed any problems personally. Have used vinegar for a longtime.

Made some homemade laundry detergent...LOVE IT!!!

Using vinegar, too. Also going to make my own dishwashing detergent. Basically the same ingredients as laundry soap except for zote. I have been making my own all purpose cleaner for a while (castile soap and baking soda). This works so well and is completely non-toxic. It is the only thing...

Made some homemade laundry detergent...LOVE IT!!!

I wish I knew about this before now. Making your own laundry detergent. It is cheap, very cheap and environmentally friendly. As, clean better than commercial soap. After seeing many people post about the cost savings of making their own, I decided to try my hand at it. Used the dry...

How do you make rice flour for gluten free diet?

I have never tried to grind rice. Have grinded millet, quinoa and oats in food processor. Worked out pretty well. I would suggest using millet instead of rice as a substitute. Millet has a consistancy and taste similiar to wheat and oats. Works much better in recipes, especially baked goods.

Never lived on a farm either, though wanted to for a most of my childhood. I live in older housing development in a city of about 210,000. Do have chickens and a vegetable garden. To be honest, I think it is cheaper and more feasible to live in an urban area. The outlay cost to live in the...

My head feels a lot better, thank you. Pinching pennies is also fun. Actually feel happier now that I am not spending that much money. It is also nice not to see my bank account clean out as fast. Yeah, student loans are not that much fun. I had it better than those who are just starting...

In the case of Chik'nish, I am really not cracking much of a code. The ingredients on the back are: Soy flour, Salt, Food Yeast (probably brewser's yeast), Garlic, Parsley, Celery (all in powder form) plus unique blend of vegetables and herbs. Doesn't seem too difficult to mix. Even have...

    SUN SUN SUN SUN!

My chickens wouldn't even go outside yesterday until the fog burned off. I live in the Central Valley and the fog is like a blanket until about noon. Funny, though, we have no predators - live in urban area. The only would be predator the nextdoor cat is terrified of them. He was trying to...

How do I repair holes in my jeans?

HAH!!! Love you way of fixing things. I would wear boxers or leggings underneath, but afraid more wear without repair will rip them faster. Also, some family members have complained. My sister and mom had a mini intervention with me yesterday about the state of some of my clothes.

Vegetarians Unite...And Make Delicious, Economical And Nutritious Food

For chicken flavoring: I figure a pound of soy or garbanzo bean flour is about $1.20 #(will only use like 1/4 pound), nutritional yeast (if using it) is about $12 # (probably use about 1/8 cup or like .10 #), tumeric and other spices will be less than 40 cents. That should be about 85 cents to...
