yes, it was and is a lot of work.
no overall plan or design other than the ex-step-dad wanting a small summer home and Mom needed a place to live - it became a full year home and he eventually left.
she started gardening in one small area way out back and then added decorations and then kept...
there's some weeds that need taking care of in this garden along with some thinning out or removing many thousands of daffodils... it still looks pretty nice considering how little time i've been able to get over there since last fall. i've weeded part of the creeping thyme edges and the areas...
reminds me of the first few years i planted some phlox seeds (purple, white, pink mix that i harvested from a patch along a road) that gave me some wonderful displays and then the large seeds. and then the goldfinches found them and shredded most of them. i didn't mind that at all since it...
i hope the unexpected was a nap and not a bee! :)
slow easy mornings are very nice indeed.
i procrastinated about an hour longer than i should have, but i'm just not a morning person no matter how i'm packaged and prodded.
i did get about an hour and a half in of weeding before i called it...
for now with this heat the person helping out is on hold until temperatures moderate. maybe next week they'll be back to finish up.
we have a pallet of cedar mulch being delivered the end of next week. it will be a lot easier for Mom that she doesn't have to haul them around or shovel them...
an hour and a half of weeding this morning. my body has an built in detector for when i've had enough and i get too hot i also get nauseated so i pretty much have to stop. if i get out there a little earlier tomorrow that would be a good idea. it is too easy to procrastinate some mornings...
i wanted to go back to sleep but we ended up filling up the car with ten loads of things that Mom wanted to wash and went off to the laundromat to do them all at once instead of doing them here. everyone else had the same idea so instead we did a little shopping and had lunch and then went back...
as for the price of pectin, green apples and green grapes have a lot of pectin, but also citrus peels, we've not used much pectin here in recent years now that the strawberry patch is not producing. i've never gotten into going out and picking the wild apples that can often be found, but when i...
i suppose you could also add some sugar to it and pretend it is the sweetened and condensed kind? we use that here often enough and it sure has gotten expensive.
still more to do to finish up. plan was for tomorrow but now with heavy rains today and tonight and chances all day tomorrow we decided to reschedule for Saturday.
i hope it gets dried out enough you can mow it without choking out the mower! i had a patch get out of control last year for a month and a half and when i could finally get back to it i was using the mower tilted up to mow some of it down before i could go back for a third or fourth pass...
some rain this morning! at last! :) :) :) it doesn't take much to make a gardener happy. :) :) :)
mebbe some more in a bit and today and tonight and tomorrow...
i took the chances of rain and the radar as a hint this morning and just went back to sleep. good call...
Mom wanted to garden...
needed to get some weeding done today before it got too hot outside, but also after waking up early i found out we were having a few friends over for a visit so i promptly went back to sleep because it was too early to go outside and i felt tired. got up and then got out there and finished...
mowing was a bit of a challenge today, but i got it done with a break to cool off. also went back and checked out the stuff leftover from beekeeping to see if they had picked it up yet, newp, called to remind them, we'll see.
since i was mowing over that ways as part of going back there to...
i told Mom "Happy Father's Day" when we got up first thing in the morning. she always gets a laugh out of that. i did call Dad later and he didn't answer but eventually did call back. we chatted for a bit.
