Gurney's and those types are often extremely overpriced. I would look for more local sellers.
There's a neat website called Localharvest.com where you might find good stuff.
I agree, Baker Creek is great, but unfortunately they run out of the most popular varieties really early. They were out of three types of seeds I wanted, way back in early march. I managed to find two of them later from people selling their seeds in other outlets.
They are also good b/c you...
At first thought, I figured it had something to do with accommodations. I bet he has some kind of "dorm" for the interns, but doesn't want the ladies sharing a bathroom with the men. Maybe if a lady lived "off the farm" in her own place she could get an internship there.
Martha Stewart (I know , I know) has a new cookie book out with great recipes! My local library has it. It has recipes for various types of sugar cookies, depending on how you want them. I think it's just called "Cookies". The chocolate gingerbread cookies in it are the BEST cookies I have...
I've found that a book called "Real Food" by Nina Planck is excellent. It has lots of info about the fats and such. Especially about animal fats in "natural" meat vs. "factory" meat. It's an easy read.

Sorry to hear that Sylvie! Everybody should be careful with the axes also. DH smacked his leg (with jeans on) a few years ago, and his leg swelled up so much it split open! It left a scar that's still visible, and still aches, today.
Yeah, and I posted something a while back about making bags out of wool sweaters. I've seen some around at some of the flea markets and stuff and they can be very pretty. I bet the instructions are online somewhere, but I think I first saw it in a Country Living or Midwest Living magazine last...
That's great! You should suggest this as a homemade gift in the "homemade gifts" thread just started today. Lots of people have scrap lumber laying around.
There's a very good book out there on food preservation called "Putting Food By". It has info on canning, freezing, dehydrating, root cellaring, smoking etc.
I would also suggest checking out the wild foods available in your area. After many years, preserved foods can lose nutritional...
Sounds delicious! In the fall I make a pear-apple pie with ginger and raisins. Just use half apples and half pears (or whatever ratio you want) toss in a handful of regular or golden raisins, and use about 1/2 tsp of ground ginger (or you could use fresh ginger too). Make it up like you would...
I am going to make one of my work buddies a little cookbook with recipes I think she would like to bake. For my family, usually at least one person gets a small quilt or an embroidered object, like tea towels. For people that I only exchange very small gifts with, I give things like jars of...
