    Cream-top, unhomogenized milk

You can freeze the separated cream from each container you buy, then, when you have enough, defrost all and make butter (or ice cream :drool).

    Dogsled Pictures!!!

We were in Alaska on vacation last summer - awesome place! We did take the cart rides with the Iditarod dogs, and we went to Hatcher Pass. Quite and experience! I couldn't get over the long days. But I expect the long nights in the winter can be quite depressing.

    Electronic Cigarettes

They are still dangerous to the smoker, just like cigarettes, but at least they are not affecting innocent bystanders.

I believe I have seen EVERYTHING now........

I think they mean to convey that the battery charge would last 4 hours, so you could use it several times? or one pot that simmers a long time? like chili? I wouldn't want the silicone thingy sitting in my food for up for 4 hours, though.

I believe I have seen EVERYTHING now........

I wonder if it would stir paint? As for food, stirring is part of the fun of cooking - I don't want that taken away. But I do know a few people who would buy that gizmo!

    Electronic Cigarettes

My mom uses them. She has stopped using regular cigarettes. Her house smells better, SHE smells better. We don't have to expose the kids to a blue haze every time we visit her.

    Apple Cider Vinegar Bragging thread!

I used a gallon-sized glass jug, covering the top with a few layers of cheesecloth attached with a rubber band. It worked very well for me.

    Vacuum sealer recommendations

I use the canisters for my coffee beans and the coffee after I grind it. I grind enough for a few days. They keep it very fresh. But the problem I have is that you can't tell when all the air is out of the canister. I once cracked a canister from over-suctioning it.

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

We call my Subaru "Lurch" because for a couple of years I had a problem where it would lose power (at the most inconvenient times), start chugging and wheezing, then all of a sudden would have a burst of power and lurch forward. I had it in the shop several times, and they could never find a...

    Michele_Lynd a step at a time : what's up this week

Congrats on your son getting through basic training! I understand having those pride/panic feelings with my son in the Marines. The source of many gray hairs! Enjoy your new canner. I just got one last summer, and I'm addicted!

    Grape vines from cuttings

I needed this. I tried to start some cuttings last year but they all died. Now I see I did pretty-much everything wrong.. live and learn... I'll give it another try this year.

    Buy chocolate now!

What a sinister plan - driving up the price of chocolate just before Valentine's Day!

    Need help w/kids nutrition project

I don't know if this would work for you, but I once did a workshop for daycare providers, where I passed out copies of ingredient lists from different packaged foods, and the class had to guess what food item the ingredient list came from. Very eye-opening for them.

    What are you DEHYDRATING today?

I pulled-out the last of my dehydrated tomatoes yesterday, and put them in the chili I was making. Clearly I need to dry a lot more this season!

    Savingdogs-Saving the chickens

Your story of Toby is heartwarming. It really touched me because we have a Chocolate Lab. He's the friendliest dog I know and my 9-year old son's best friend. You're doing a wonderful thing with the dogs.

    Winter reading and more

I found Three Cups of Tea inspiring and full insight into the culture. I have Mortenson's second book: Stones to Schools, but haven't started it yet. Now I am reading The Dirty Life: On Farming, Food, and Love, by Kristin Kimball. Its about a city girl who marries a farmer. She was a...

You and do BWB with your pressure canner. Just don't use the gauge or seal the lid.

    Tattler Reusable Canning Lids?

I used the Tattler lids last summer, and they worked well for me. I have used some of them a second time and had no problems. I think it will be worth the extra cost since I don't have to buy new lids every year. I really bought them because I didn't like using the metal lids since I found...

    Pressure canner

I have a glass top stove, and used it (very carefully) last year with my Presto 23. It was free for the Extension to check my pressure gauge. In some towns they have a day where they set up at a public place and you can take your gauge in. I just called and set up an appointment to have...
