I just bought a book called "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day". I thought the author was a little on the whacko side when I saw the title, but her recipe and method makes GREAT bread and you can make up enough dough for 8 loaves.
The key is that you don't have to fiddle with the yeast...
I love the idea of a 50 year plan! I'm only 55, about 1/2 way through my journey here, if my luck holds.
My mom is 75 and my grandmother is 95, so I think I'd better plan for the long term still. Grandma is still sturdy as she can be, lives in her own apartment alone, and goes to church most...
Who's more frugal? Hmmm, let me put it this way. When my husband and I got married, he had over 150 tee shirts, 500 cds (and I don't mean Certificates of Deposit), a checking account that he had never balanced, and a roomful of high end stereo equipment.
His folks spent money like water...
'nuther recipe that uses eggs:
Chili Rellenos
6 Anaheim or Poblano chilis.....or jalepanos if you're brave
2/3 cup cornmeal (optional)
1 cup flour
1 & 1/2 cups milk
5 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Well the sensible thing to do would be to make a LOT of creme brulee, and then invite me over for dessert.
Here's the recipe I use, which I lifted from somewhere on the 'net. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, add up the calories.
1 quart heavy cream
1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
1 cup vanilla...
I'm going to use them like a cloche, to cover the tender plants early next spring. They should be ideally suited for that, since I can just cut off the bottom and stick them into the ground around the plant. I can leave the lid on or off as needed.
I will also try the drip-watering idea. I'm...
Thank you for the links! I had NO IDEA that I need a permit to stock my farm pond. Oh well, should be quick process as there's no egress that would allow my stock to get into the water supply.
I'm not going to debate the global warming issue.
But what have you got to lose by being more environmentally sound? Nearly everything that one can do to be "green" costs a lot less than not being "green", such as driving less, driving a smaller vehicle, turning off electricity users when not...
My recipe is very similar to yours.
2 cans diced tomatoes, preferably the kind with chilis or jalepanos already in them.
1 large can black beans, undrained
1 good sized red onion, diced (love that dicer gizmo from tv! I got mine for $2 at a yard sale)
1 bunch cilantro, chopped
1 small can...
To clarify, the pond is set so that it can be filled/drained with large pipes from the irrigation canals. I'm in Benton County, Wa. It was drained and left that way during the sale process, when we bought the house last summer.
I understand that rainbow trout may be a reach, but oh they...
We have an empty farm pond that our neighbor is going to fill for us with his irrigation pump. It's a fairly good-sized pond, about 100x100 feet and maybe 30 feet at the deepest point.
We want to stock the pond with either crappies and bluegills or maybe try rainbow trout. I am having a...
Yeah, I know.........I shouldn't be buying stuff in plastic bottles. I've been rationalizing it because the juice is sooooo good to me and makes me feel sturdy.
I checked out the Simply Orange website at https://secure.simplyorangejuice.com and by clicking on the arrow, came across an 800...
Non-food stuff I would want in an Emergency Preparedness Kit: (by no means inclusive)
Aspirin
Toilet paper
Bleach (in case you need it to sanitize drinking water)
Neosporin
Imodium and/or Ex Lax (hey, emergencies make some people's tummies do weird things)
Sunscreen (in case you are sitting...
