Looking at houses ~ NOW LAND!!! COUNTER OFFER ACCEPTED!!!

Wow, your ideas all sound wonderful! Just one suggestion, based on experience. A metal building on a property with excellent sun exposure can get very, very hot, even on mild days. Give lots of thought to ventilation and cooling. We had a metal shop building that was intolerable in the summer.

    Ldychef2k: Notes from a Wannabe - Ldychef2k fesses up.

I hope all goes as planned but I wonder if a person as deranged and controlling as that will simply walk away. Giving up his parental rights will certainly help if anything happens in the future. That boy IS a hero, and he should hear that a lot. He not only secured a safer future for...

    Ldychef2k: Notes from a Wannabe - Ldychef2k fesses up.

Find out if the kids have a Guardian Ad Litum (sp) or an attorney of their own. If not, call every woman's organization in your area and ask if any lawyers do pro bono work on behalf of children. If that doesn't work, call your local hotline and ask for referrals to child abuse agencies...

Best herbs/supplements/practices when recovering from a car accident

When I asked my doctor about the fistful of vitamins and minerals that I was taking to regain health after radiation therapy, I was expecting a lecture on taking all those supplements. But you know what he said? "Add zinc, for healing." I did, and it helped.

    Laundry soap...

I've been reading about making homemade laundry detergent for a long time but never got around to it until yesterday. After reading all these posts and checking around the 'net, I went ahead and tried it out. I had the perfect test load, too; a bunch of cleaning rags that had started to...

Selling house as Urban Farm ~thoughts or ideas?

Frankly I wouldn't advertise it as an urban farm, urban homestead or anything like that. Better to say something like "room for gardens and poultry", or whatever in your ads. That way you don't eliminate a large portion of the buyers who are going to interpret "urban farm" as " a heck of a lot...

    Foods that increase inflammation?

Lady, one sentence struck me as particularly meaningful in that article: "In fact being overweight can itself be the cause of inflammation." I had radiation therapy about 20 years ago and ever since then I've had muscle pain that the doctors can't figure out....I gave up even mentioning it...

    anti inflammatory?

Welch's grape juice helps me. Don't care for it, but no other grape juice seems to do the trick. Maybe it's because of the Concord grapes? It has been beneficial for my arthritis and joint pain. ( I had radiation therapy years ago and it really did a number on my hip joints and lower spine.)

rag quilts and my treadle, rotary cutting

All the rotary cutting tools are very sharp! I've seen a very experienced quilter with stitches in her hand, so be careful to always retract the blade when not in use. They are amazing timesavers, well worth the extra caution. I didn't make rag quilts with my treadle but I made denim vests...

May I suggest a book that I think you are going to love?

I read that a while back and found it delightful. She was raised not so very far away from where I was raised. One of my favorite passages was when the woman came in and explained birth control to the lady with six kids. What a hoot!

my chickens were killed .................. :(

I'm so sorry that you have had to deal with this. I feel your pain. Hubby and I had (key word:had) 2 dozen free range chickens. We had an open shelter for them but no secure coop. Within three days time, before we could even get some kind of secure fencing up, coyotes got all but three of...
