Uh, well, I'm not sure I'll use it all and not sure you should be impressed. :hu
It was just such a bargain. And then after I bought it, I felt like I couldn't let any of it go to waste. Now I've just got to get in the habit of throwing some in whenever I make spaghetti, chili, soup, etc.
Last week I cut up 50 lbs. of onions. I peeled, cut off the ends, quartered each onion and put it into the food processor with the dicing blade. Of course, that was far more than could be put through even a large dehydrator in a day, so I had many bags of onions to store in the refrigerator...
I think my favorite way is similar to that of Beekissed. I like making something into something else, or revamping and reusing it. Sometimes it may be something from a thrift store or junk pile. A man who works for my father loaded some items onto a burn pile, and I happened to notice my...
We live on a large lake and got an estimate for a system to run pipes into it. About 8 years ago the price was around $30,000.00, so it was out of the question for us.
Mackay, you've probably gotten you answer elsewhere, but just in case: Gamma seal lids are wonderful replacement lids for food grade buckets. The lids come apart, so that the bottom seals tightly on the rim of the bucket. Then the other part screws down tightly. This enables opening and...
Thanks for the answers, y'all. I am looking at these:

From what I've read, ducks are much more cold-tolerant and fare slightly better with some predators. They really need water to splash around in to be at their happiest.
There was a good article in Organic Gardening about ducks and geese in the July/August 1997 issue. I've wanted ducks ever...
It seems I am constantly being thwarted with finding buckets. Walmart and Sam's recycle them. Publix either doesn't want to talk about it or has an occasional one. The ones at our Lowe's, unless they have gotten some new ones in the past couple of weeks, are thin and black and have a strong...
I seem to remember the dehydrator instructions say not to use it outside, but I certainly plan to do so the next time I do onions. I'll just pick a warm, dry day and set it out on the deck.
The day I did onions in the house, we just about couldn't stand it
I had wondered if just plain chlorine would work. We have an in-line reverse osmosis filter under the sink, but we couldn't get lake water into it very easily. Thanks for the ideas so far.
I am trying to prepare for the possibility of being without water for an extended period of time. After Hurricane Ivan, we were without power and, therefore, water for 80 hours. At that time we were on well water (electric pump), but we are now on county water, which is more reliable...
BK, I haven't, but I have often dreamed of it ;-). I have had two greenhouses, one a hoop house and one built of plexiglass and treated wood. (The latter was an expensive mistake). I'm saving every article I see of those made from old windows and doors. Best wishes on your endeavor!
Big Daddy, thanks for posting this. I was glad to see another benefit of my having such short hair.
Farmer Denise, I'm so sorry that happened to you.
I just wanted to share a story some of you may not be familiar with, about a woman from Edwards, Mississippi named Curtescine Lloyd, who...
I just wanted to say, being fairly new here, this is the first time I've seen this thread -- You have such a beautiful place! Every time I see open land ....:drool
It's Thomas the Train! Or perhaps Thomas the Composter.
Thanks for sharing! This I have access to metal drums, but I'm sure they have held fuel. I'll be on the look-out for a plastic one....
The whole transition is not affecting us because we have satellite. I think most television is trash or a waste of time, but we couldn't even get local weather if we didn't have satellite. We have the least expensive "package" we can get. We live way out in the country, have no social life...
