I have some clay that was dug on our property, and have a wilderness survival book that tells in detail how to make pottery from it. I was just reading about it last night. Thought I would get some of the clay out to see if it's of quality to work.
I learned how to knit and crochet quite a while ago. I made a queen size wool blanket that took 12 years. I can't use it, because I'm now sensitive to wool.
To make another one, I would get the huge knitting needles, and some kind of thick, thick soft yarn.
I grew cotton last year, and...
I'll only free range chickens. Have had a fox one year that killed most of them. We fenced approximately 1.5 acres with electric to get rid of the fox problem. One neighbor is close and one trio would visit her, which she loved. The neighbor missed "her chickens" that would come to visit :(...
I would like to build a survival shelter on our property out of all natural materials, and live in that. Gather only from our land for food, use water from the creek (filter it of course). In reality this would only last for a few days.
A more reasonable 30 day SS challenge would be to do one...
Recently I've found shampoo and conditioner bars, packaged in cardboard and paper.
I've also found a laundry detergent, and hand soap by a company called Clean Cult, at a local large grocery store chain! It's packaged in paper milk carton material, and the top looks like plastic is made from...
I'm still making the homemade suet. Out of grass-fed beef suet, or lamb fat, organic peanuts, and organic raisins. The birds are loving them. I put much less raisins than before, and cut them up.
While I was reading about rendering suet, I came across an article about using suet on the face...
Last fall while walking in the marsh I found for the first time evidence of beavers! Apparently, they've been here for years, probably longer than the 11 years that we've lived here. As I've been walking around more I've found many small tree/bush cuttings that are much older.
Haven't found...
Have you seen these that look like lint floating around? Up close they look like a fantasy tale character. Not a good picture. I have a new camera now that will take better pics next year! This was taken July 2021.
Onion, garlic, ginger, and horseradish are all anti-inflammatory and have an alkalinizing effect in the body, so are great to add to dishes that you're eating. Hot peppers are good for some people who are not sensitive to hot food or night shades.
Apple cider vinegar is the little god that...
We still have oil lamp fuel from Y2K. Don't know if it's still good. We use candles if the power goes out. I would like to make an olive oil lamp.
Baking soda is a great cleaner to have excessive boxes of, and inexpensive. Also good in place of tooth paste.
Hiking could be an issue also. Last time I picked up my backpack, it was pretty heavy, and I still need to add a few more things before I could go anywhere.
If going nowhere, (as the plan is to stay) the backpack may still come in handy, just to have necessities at hand in case of a tornado...
Most organic peanut butters are in glass and Smucker's. We always have multiple jars in stock :hide. Santa Cruz dark roasted crunchy, and Smucker's organic crunchy are my favorites.
Also keeping in mind if having to camp not to pack things that have plastic packaging as to not litter any modern human garbage in the environment. Glass containers, like peanut butter jars can be recycled and used at the camp site. I already do keep a lot of peanut butter jars, along with the...
We also have another property that is less ideal, but a lot of wild food there. It's surrounded with farmers' fields on three sides that drain into the ponds, so water is an issue.
There used to be a group of people who lived/camped there in the 70s. Some of their litter is still there, and...
SS was also our plan living where we do, as our property is our bug out location.
If having to get away totally, well it depends on the situation if hiking, or driving. Hiking seems safer in some situations, and if trying to hide. I could be ready to go in maybe 20 minuets, and think I need...
In the article below Deanne Criswell, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, stated "This is going to be our new normal", in CNN's State of the Union.
This thread is not about that statement, but I do want to say since she seems to know, and I won't say more than: "Angels Don't Play...
