this place is worthless for my needs

Aw shucks, thanks! It’s too bad I was all by myself. We alternate Christmases between here and our relatives in Colorado. This year it was Colorado, but I couldn’t find a chicken sitter who could also manage the house dogs. So two days before the trip I announced that I would stay home by...

this place is worthless for my needs

He turned out pretty good. A little bit undercooked in some parts, but I’ll just put those parts in the soup when I make it and cook them a little more. Most of the meat is cooked just right though.

this place is worthless for my needs

I was trying to remember where I had posted about my turkey named Soup. Ha ha we had a good thread going here until the OP changed the title! Well anyway, here is Soup today. I finally have one turkey processing under my belt. I’m planning to dry brine him for a couple days and then roast him...

How to make your home feel warmer (without turning up the heat)

Good question! After years of having a “dirty sock box” in our mudroom to make things easier for the kids, DH decided to thin things out and remove the box. Since only 1 kid is left at home. Now I have to change my ways because I am conditioned to putting my dirty socks in there instead of...

How to make your home feel warmer (without turning up the heat)

I hear you on that! We don’t tuck ours in either. My feet are in and out of the blanket constantly. One at a time or both. One in and one out seems to work best. But I was actually thinking of the clean sock thing as a way to keep floor lint off the sheets. Then I remembered the Girl Scout thing.

How to make your home feel warmer (without turning up the heat)

@flowerbug you could try keeping a clean pair of socks for sleeping in that you don’t wear during the day. Or change into tomorrow’s sock at bedtime. One of our Girl Scout camping tips for staying warm in your sleeping bag all night was to do just that. Because any dampness from the socks you...

Ha ha, now that I’ve caught up on their other thread it all makes sense.

Huh. Looks like someone left in a huff. Changed the name of their thread before they left. I don’t know, but it seemed like they were getting nice, friendly advice. Oh well.🤷🏼‍♀️

this place is worthless for my needs

I have let a hen set a couple of times. They did ok. Mostly I just take all the eggs and incubate them. For me it depends on if I have a good/safe spot I can let them set on. Which varies year to year according to how I have arranged whatever birds I have. This year I let one set, and I gave...

this place is worthless for my needs

If you keep feeling “drawn” to turkey raising, I think you should go for it! Especially if you have a good place to house them. Turkeys are really cool. Sometimes I like them better than chickens. I have found that most years, hatching and selling the poults is profitable. Even if they don’t...

    CORN BREAD

Ha ha! It was fairly small amounts of everything. Baymule said to use a deep pan, but I think mine is kind of shallow. (But wide) I didn’t think it was all going to fit, but it did. I meant to post a photo before, but I forgot.

    CORN BREAD

Baymule, I made this for dinner tonight! (Although I must have written it down from somewhere else that you posted it, because you used the words “smokin’ hot” for heating the oil.🤣) Since you said to put anything you want in it, I used: Cut up spiral sliced ham I had in the freezer Onions...

Things To Know Before Getting Geese

Exactly. They were a very nice Indian family, and I didn’t mind helping them out. But this is not going to be my future business model. Bay, that’s exactly what he said. He said if I had a plucker he could use, he would be willing to pay to be able to use it. Because exactly like you said...

Things To Know Before Getting Geese

This past weekend I had a customer who wanted to kill and pluck his purchase on my property before taking them home. (Note to self: in future say no!) He bought 4 Cayuga drakes and 1 white Chinese gander. I only helped pluck the ducks a little bit. But when they got to the gander, it seemed to...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

This is my plan too. I made and froze 6 pie shells on Saturday. So far 3 of them have been turned into pies and frozen. Going to do more today. Then the casserole. I only saw one wooly bear caterpillar this fall, and it was almost all brown. I think he was lying!

Couple dozen eggs? 🤷🏼‍♀️ (I don’t know whether you have chickens.)

    Chicken feather type/texture?

Yes, which I think was a bad move. Why make it so much harder for new people to learn, by having two different genes with the name blue? People were used to lavender for crying out loud!
