Storm blew in the wee hours of this morning. Power is off. I called automated system to report it. Then I called and actually spoke to someone and told her I had a bunch of baby chicks with no heat lamps and sure would appreciate anything they could do. She said there’s over 4,000 with no power...

    Are we living our dream?

Some days it’s nice to not get dressed and just slop around all day. For you, it’s your gown. For me it’s sweat pants and sloppy big tshirt. I usually pick a rainy bitter cold day, just don’t my Carhart’s to go outside for animal chores. It’s down time and we all need that sometimes.

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Coffee is ready, gonna be a nice day. I think I’m gonna work on mud holes. I have a large one where I need to back up and have almost gotten stuck before. So I have to angle the truck to avoid the mud trap. My son told me to wait for it to dry up, put down a layer of lime, a layer of dirt, etc...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Wow! I’ve wrestled sheets of plywood, heavy, unwieldy and awkward to handle. This is pure genius. Now I just need a shop to do this in!

Chicks are doing fine in the coop. I turn off 3 heat lamps, then turn them back on around 5 or 6 PM. Supposed to rain tomorrow but temperatures will be in the 50’s for a low, 70’s for high.

    Frustratedearthmother's Journaling Journey

Fencing is a lot of work, but you will be so glad to have it done. I like your strategy, not so nice neighbors get the used ugly fence. Prospective buyers can look at new fence.

I have a. Barometer hanging in the middle of the heat lamps. This morning temperature was right above 70. I woke up to a pile of dead chicks yesterday morning. They were in the middle of the tub I had them in. Not crowded under the heat lamp, not crowded at the other end away from the heat...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Coffee is ready! It’s Friday, had to look because most of the time I don’t know what day it is anymore. I missed church Wednesday night cause I thought it was Tuesday. I’m really careful to know it’s Sunday because I teach the kids class. When I worked I sure knew what day it was, especially Friday!

All that work and where are the chicks????? In the house. A little crowded, but they have feed, water, are warm and alive. Freeze is gone. Hopefully I can maintain temperature in the still empty coop and they can go outside. I am an idiot.

Wow, last time I kept a CCX journal was 2020. A lot of changes since then. I have orders for 50 chickens, dressed out of course. So I ordered 75 chicks, went and picked them up Wednesday, February 19. I built a new coop, bigger, for that many. They gave me 5 extra, total 80 chicks. I will...
