Just made a qt of cottage cheese 🙂 I like it for breakfasts, with some fruit. Also use it at dinner with garlic bread & tomato -- bruschetta fashion with olive oil. Yum. Might sound strange to some but, cottage cheese is good food nutritionally. 👍
Yep....even the lowly chicken is way up in price!! Yikes. I just picked up some split breasts at $1.29#, a loss leader. Have a good amount canned chicken but these I vac sealed for frying in winter. Love fried with skin on -- a treat as I don't fry a lot. Have a couple whole frozen, plus...
Wheat crackers, topped with soft goat cheese & apple butter...really tasty for breakfast. Been doing good all day and mostly done with today's list. I'm having a coffee break! Much warmer out today but humidity is really low, light breeze, makes it quite pleasant. My hen took her batch of...
Same here. Use more ground & only occasionally a steak. Like them but, only if really tender. I enjoy a good roast....extras into sandwiches or soups. :idunno
So coffee was first 😂 then I could read my days list. Heavy house cleaning all week, while I'm off job work. Chores happened. Some follow ups done. Feed order placed...will pick up when I go to town for the lawn tractors starter solenoid :idunno Repairs never seem to end.
In honor of Labor...
We can see the parted out prices at the grocery stores...makes sense to see bulk sides & quarters. Of course, it's overall a better price for each part being "equally" valued as a whole. I used to raise, 30 yrs ago 😂. Today, not doing. I buy some in bulk.
It's just good to know these...
Of course, with cut loss, the take home meat is closer to $9 per #, than $5.40. We're not gonna win🤷 Pay rail weight, take home useable is less. Of course, you can take home all the "loss" portion. Render tallow, bone broth & dog foods. Lessens actual "loss" by using it in some way.
I have a store a little further with better pricing than my close towns. But usually primal cuts & not always as tender as what I prefer. 🤷 They do have a far better chicken, however....quality wise & good for sale prices. That's why I even tried their beef.
Oh well -- times are changing :old
Corrections
8 from incubated...6 pullet, 2 roo.
4 hen hatched...2 pullet, 2 roo
3 just hatched...2 pullet, I roo
Great...makes 10 new layers, assuming all survive until then....plus the 4 bought BOs. 14 eggers.
Same for BOs purchased, 4 pullets, 1 roo. They are doing very well...
Ground beef prices :ep so glad the farmers are getting great $$ for cattle BUT -- a hamburger costs what a steak once did 🥴 I like lean, 93% usually, and it's at $9 a pound. 85% wasn't much less. Steaks $14- 24. Yeah, baby!! 😵💫 it's shocking to see.
I have a few London broil frozen, & some...
