    Freezer malfunction

We vacuum-sealed about 6 chickens on Thursday night, and put them in the freezer in our garage. It had been unplugged since it was empty, so DH plugged it in that morning, and said it felt cold when he put the chickens in that night. So last night he opened the freezer, and it was cool in...

    A Valentine for your Sweetie?

nada. I'll probably make a nice dinner, but that's about it. It's going to be warm-ish down here, so I think I'll grill steaks. Yummmmm!

    Strep throat help.

I just got over strep a few weeks ago (think I posted about it, too). My doc said that untreated strep can lead to scarlet fever or rheumatic fever. Not sure how often that happens, but you might want to get DD to the doc when you're able, just to be safe.

What did you have for lunch today

I had soup & salad, courtesy of our county court. I'm on jury duty! :D

    Vanishing Business

Video stores are disappearing around here, too. The Movie Gallery was replaced by a liquor store, if that tells you anything. There's not really one type of store that's going, but a lot of the junk shops and places that sell candles/lotions/etc are going under. I think people are focusing on...

    What "exactly" is money?

This thread reminded me of a program I heard a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/423/the-invention-of-money There's a story about a financial crisis in Brazil, and the 2nd half is about the Fed. It really details how...

    Sugar Addiction

I used to have a tremendous sweet tooth, too! I was a pop junkie! I have phased it out, as I'm not very good at cold turkey (Couldn't quit smoking until I quit telling myself I'd NEVER have a cigarette again.) Like other people have suggested, I would recommend cutting down. Personally, I...

    A plague of starlings

They'll go right into the coop & make a mess in there. Little *&%$#! I will have to look up the sparrow trap. Might let DH do some target practice with them. I'm not a very good shot, so I'm afraid I'd end up taking out one of my hens! Thanks for the tips!

    A plague of starlings

I agree with the disgusting-factor. There is poo everywhere! And we have a rooster, but he doesn't seem to do a whole lot of good. Unfortunately, the run is huge, so covering it really isn't really an option. The dog doesn't really care about them either. I might have to...

    A plague of starlings

The starlings at my house are driving me crazy! When I got home today, it was obvious they had had a smorgasbord on the scratch I put out for the chickens. It doesn't matter where I put the food, those little (*^!@ get into it. I've decided I should feed primarily later in the evening when...

    SKR8PN.... two small butts........

I thought going into teaching would guarantee me a job. I even have my special ed license, but the only place I can find a job right now is a crappy online school. Because of the economy, all of the schools around here are cutting instead of hiring, and given that I have 10 years of experience...

the hovel i want to call home

It does look very cool! Before you do ANYTHING, tho, have someone in the know (contractor, appraiser, etc) take a look at it to give you a real, honest assessment of what it would take. DH bought our house 5 years ago with fantastic ideas of fixing it up, and the problem is, it honestly won't...
