Would I be a bad mom.. UPDATE

I will preface this by saying, I don't have kids, but I have worked with special needs kids for the past 11 years. I think that it really depends on the kid, in how you deal with them. What exactly will they respond to? Some of my students I have to be completely blunt with for them to...

    Antibiotics?

BTW, I was just kidding about the moldy bread! My doc said that, while it's rare, people can still develop scarlet fever & rheumatic fever as a complication of strep. I'm very glad to have access to antibiotics when I really need them, but it did make me think. I always like to plan ahead.

    Antibiotics?

Well, I have strep throat, and my doc put me on penicillin. It made me think, if at some point I don't have access to antibiotics, what natural substances are there to stand in? Or should I just leave some bread out to mold?

what jobs work around kids' school hours?

Definitely check out teaching online. I'm not sure if you have University of Phoenix or the like in Canada, but I have several friends who have taught for them, and it was extremely convenient w/young kids. Also, it seems like colleges are always looking for adjunct professors. That might be...

What is the best advice you have ever been given?

Exactly!!! Also, my mother gave me the advice when I was a teenager that I am responsible for my own happiness or lack thereof. I can't rely on someone else to do it for me. And she has been married to my dad for 39 years, so I definitely trust that bit of advice. And my dad always said that...

What gardening mistakes did you make that I can avoid?

Lots of great suggestions! My biggest tip is just to go out to your garden EVERY DAY and wander around. I have detected a lot of problems that way that were reversible because I caught them early on. Also, I snagged some big plastic tubs from my neighbor that worked awesomely as makeshift...

    Depression/Anxiety

Fresh air really really really helps me. I only get bad in the winter time, so it might not work as well for you, but natural sunlight as opposed to vitamin D supplements does wonders for my mood.

Sorry, I read this thread title as "How to start a baby?" I had to check to see what on earth people responded to that! :gig

    Good Old Minnesota! Yeah right!

That is completely asinine! Do they seriously not have real criminals or real problems to deal with that they have to victimize people just trying to feed themselves and others??? You'd think they were making meth or something with that treatment.

    Egg Prices

DH & I were just discussing that we need to really keep track of food intake vs. egg output. We're at $2 because that's what the market will bear around here. I'm sure friends & family would pay more because they're all city folks, but I'm not sure that the locals would when they can get them...

    REALLY GROSS chicken question

Thanks guys! Our chickens are pretty much just livestock, not pets, so I don't see myself teaching her Braille or anything. Maybe I could train the dog to be her guide dog.... (Sorry, gallows humor!) It's extremely creepy to me that the others would do that, but I am relieved it's looking...

    REALLY GROSS chicken question

No, she feels normal. She's not wheezing or sneezing. Nothing coming out of her nose.... ETA: DH is going to put her down when he gets home. I just want to be sure I should treat the flock for a respiratory illness.

    REALLY GROSS chicken question

I found a chicken in my coop looking ill. Eyes were all crusty, and she seems disoriented, so I brought her inside. After searching the internet, I decided it must be coryza, but she doesn't smell bad like it's supposed to. I tried to wipe some of the gunk away, and all of this whitish...

Waking up with a headache! Ugh!

I thought it might have to do with dry air, but I've run the humidifier the past 2 nights, and it hasn't helped. Interesting tip about running hot water over my hands, Morel. I've never heard that, but I'll have to try it. We also had that snowstorm in the Midwest blow thru last night, so...

Waking up with a headache! Ugh!

The past 3 mornings, I have woken up with a headache. The first morning, I had had a glass of wine the night before, so I thought it might be the culprit. No wine, and I've woken up with the same headache the past 2 mornings. I take some advil, and it goes away, but I'm not sure what's...

    Beeswax lotion question

The original recipe ended up being too solid with all the beeswax. I reduced the wax to 1/2 oz, and then added another oz of water, and it came out very nice. :)
