Here is the house we are working on. Son is trying to match this new roof to the old photo (historical records) of this house. Here's how far we've gotten: And then again today: Here's the original photo:

My idea of fun is building houses with Habitat for Humanity -- especially the all women builds. Right now spouse and I are helping son rehab his 1832-ish Victorian. We just finished decking the new front porch. Tomorrow we do the steps and start the porch roofing. I'll have to get photos...

Which type is better: battery solar or tied into grid?

There are a lot of passive solar options you can add to your building plans that will help keep that meter from spinning quite as much. A heat source that doesn't require electricity to work is always a good idea. Even better if you can cook that way in an emergency.

    Bone Spurs Found A Treatment/Cure

I had a co-worker with the same problem. She went to the doctor for help and came back to tell us that she, according to the doctor, had sperm on her heels. We all wondered how that happened. I am glad that you found a solution. For me, the podiatrist made a set of inserts that have solved the...

    Squash Vine Borers

Floating row covers do a good job, but you must pollinate the flowers by hand if you keep the insects -- good and bad -- out of the plants.

    What do you do...

Cute piglet! I may need a few rastas to stop by here soon. I am in a property dispute with the neighbors. If I lose, I plan to start raising pigs (with roosters overhead) up-wind and next to their back door. They are claiming 15 feet of our land because they misunderstood the boundary lines 16...

    Wanted: Rose Hips

I have a few here in south-est, central-est Wisconsin but suspect shipping them would be more expensive than you'd want. Mine are from a Robin Hood hedge rose and are delicious as well as rather large. No chemicals -- ever -- and these have over 20 years on the property.

new deck stain applied to thick has some shoe prints in it

My first thought was to sand the area and feather the outside edges, then re-stain. If it is recent work, the new stain should match the other just fine.

What did you fix to eat today?

Saturday was sleep over day. We had waffles slathered in homegrown strawberries. Then 11 year old granddaughter and I went picking black raspberries in the woods. She then cooked and processed 7 cans of black raspberry jelly. I should hear how the jelly turned out soon. One can didn't seal so...
