    Sufficient Self members with Poultry!

Guys, I’m so excited! I’ve been working on a “Purple Egger” project for years. I started with some nice brown eggs that had a purplish bloom on them, and at the time my only rooster was a Penedesenca. I’m not sure which hens laid the purplish eggs, but their offspring laid even better ones...

They can learn, but I only give them a few chances. If they keep it up, I get rid of them. Either eat them, or if they are a special breed, I put them on Craigslist and see if it’s worth it to somebody else to give them another chance. Lavender Orpington might be in demand where you are. Or...

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Dreamz, do you have a Meijer near you? They have a shaped sugar cookie that they put out for different holidays in their bakery department. They are the best! They will probably get in some flower shape ones for Easter. Coated with colored sugar. But they go fast. I completely missed the heart...

    Baymule’s 2023 Diet

 I must confess. We didn’t end up having salad after all. When I opened the bag of salad and started to pour it into bowls, it was slimy! :thAnd I only bought it just yesterday! Even the carrot slivers were mushy, and I’ve never seen the carrots go bad in bagged salad before. It’s usually...

    Baymule’s 2023 Diet

Wait, is this a diet thread or a ruin your diet thread?! I always wanted to try making artistic looking sugar cookies so on Thursday I spent hours making icing and piping it onto some cookies that I had made the day before. I get impatient so I didn’t make them quite as carefully as I had...

The Top 5 Dairy Cow Breeds in America

I would think that the average homesteading family wouldn’t need an American Top Five dairy breed for just their family. Seems like that would be over the top production. Like @farmerjan said, other breeds, crosses and multi purpose cattle would provide milk and meat. I would like to have a...

    Baymule’s 2023 Diet

That’s what our schools switched to for my youngest’s last few years. One month off in summer, and then 2 week breaks in October, December and I can’t remember the other one, but it was part way through the spring.

Yes! Start a journal! I love reading peoples journals. Maybe some day if I get the time and an interesting enough life, I will start one. And I thought you were giving hubs the boot. Must be an update around somewhere that I missed. It’s hard with 4 sister forums to keep up with. We were...

    Baymule’s 2023 Diet

So Bay, I’ve seen a sharp drop off in the photos of your yummy meals and calorie/carb listing. Does that mean you have gone back to the “don’t know-don’t care” method of eating? 😂 I need to look more closely at the volume of sweetened creamer I put in my morning chicory coffee-tea. It’s easy...

    Sufficient Self members with Poultry!

I guess it’s been a while since I posted on here. Around mid January I had what I think was a Fox attack. Could have been coyote, but since we haven’t actually seen any coyotes around here in a couple of years and since we did see a rather large fox twice during that week, it’s safe to assume it...

    Hello from Michigan

In the 70’s, when I was in 2nd through 6th grade, my Dad owned the Gulf station on the right there. (This view is facing south.) Of course, this photo is much older than that. I haven’t been to St. Helen in over 30 years, but my brother visits a friend of his there regularly.
