Looks like 4 apricots and 4 peaches have survived their third winter. One apricot seems to struggle with going dormant correctly in the fall, but goes dormant in the hottest part of the summer instead.
I'll keep it going until I find out if it fruits well. It might need a warmer environment in...
I was laughing. Embrace the power of "And"! Mostly A's, some B's, often on the same question. Part of one, a bit of another. It's a mix-and-match game!
Oh, my food storage has to be organized? Oops. Does that question become a B, or an A-?
I did go into town today. Stores didn't have what I...
I have seeds for upland rice. The others can grow without a paddy as well, it's just easier to grow them that way because it cuts down on weeds. Rice has both air and water roots.
The squashes and grains (eventually amaranth, quinoa, oats, flax, sesame, sorghum, possibly sunflowers) will be primarily for the birds winter forage. Their area currently has plum, pear, and apple trees, as well as a number of fruit bushes. Once their area is done, they should have plenty of...
I am into 5 generations with my chicken landrace. The base is Jersey Giant and Rhode Island Red, with Marans, Black Australorp, Ranger and Buckeye. This year I added Kraienkoppe, American Game (looks like none of the AG survived) and a Sussex-Dorking mix that's supposed to have really good...
These particular jars are Anchor-Hocking. The jar is 1/8 inch shorter in the neck, the ring is about 1/16 inch shorter, but the ending point on the ring track is about 1 inch shorter than either Kerr or Ball.
A while back I had some bottles pop their lids in the canner. Might have gotten some pretty severe burns, if I hadn't had aloe vera on hand.
Anyway, I've been trying to figure out what happened, and I think I found it.
Part of the batch was new generic bottles, part old bottles. New lids, old...
I just spent weeks looking for a pair of pants for my BIL for Christmas. He's got some medical issues so his legs are easily 2-3 times as wide as normal.
You could expand into that area as well.
I did find a pair that I can alter to fit.
20 bottles of tomatoes so far, and 3 bottles of juice. The lid blew off two bottles yesterday, one while in the cooker and one while taking the bottles out. Generic new bottles with the lids they were sold with.
I have four more bottles in the cooker this morning, one older bottle with an older...
This is a modular home. Somebody (probably some government bureaucrat) came up with the brilliant idea that there must be ventilation where the house meets the foundation. In certain areas that gap is as much as an inch wide.
I would have to seal the whole foundation.
I think I caught the last of the house mice yesterday. The only mice I'm seeing at this point are the larger field mice.
The silly things think they have squatters rights, and move in every winter.
The field mice are more complicated, because they're not attracted to sugar or oils (peanut...
