Yes, get the lysol. It's not just the getting sick part, but for me it's all the laundry and cleaning once feeling better. Hope you are all on the mend and you enjoy your last days of vacation.

    Paula Deen's Peach Cobbler

I came to copy Paula's recipe because I couldn't find the other copy and here Acre of Blessings shares another one. One that sounds good, too. Not sure which to make tonight.

keljonma's Front Porch - Settling in and adjusting

What a dear man - cleaning out the refrigerator. Moving to a smaller house can be a challenge. One that I'm sure you'll tackle. Once it's your "home" you'll know you've won. Prayers for you as you discern where to live.

    Bread Recipes Please

We are lard and butter users here. I have had good results substituting lard in many bread recipes that call for oil. Freemotion, I agree, as would everyone that eats my pies, that lard makes all the difference in pie crust. Lard also makes a nice sugar cookie.

    homemade laundry detergent/shampoo

I haven't found this to be a problem for us. But, we do have a water softener and I know that helps with laundry. When remodelling this old farmhouse, we debated installing a water softener, but with our skin we knew we would benefit from it. It does not go to the kitchen so we are not...

Processed meat birds - going out for pizza!!

big bertha, way to go! After all that work I think you deserved a meal that you didn't have to cook or clean up. I haven't processed chickens since I was a young girl ( very long ago), but the smell is one thing that I will never ever forget. I think I could do it, but I'm not sure DH is...

Small Farm Profits---How to Decide your goals

Thanks to FarmerChick and Beekissed. I'm headed to the library this week - hope I can get those books.

    prairiegirl...ramblings from our little farm

Today was another busy day. The morning started with a change of plans. My DD wanted me to ride to the mall to help her pick out a new dress. I had a lot to do, but I didn't want her to go herself. We did have a good trip and she got a very pretty dress at a really good price. Was $50.00...

    prairiegirl...ramblings from our little farm

Hmmm, are you sure about that? I'm not an expert, but I will share our experience and what we've learned - or think we've learned. The first year we raised a couple of beef calves on a little over an acre. That's all we had fenced. But, we had access to free hay. They also got grain. They...

    JUSTUSNAK...Summer coming to an end!?

You could be describing our place. Chaos most of the time. Always something. I tell my DH that I don't see us growing old and being bored. He tells me it all keeps us young.

Small Farm Profits---How to Decide your goals

FarmerChick, that was great info to share. You are one awesome motivational speaker you. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm sharing this with my DH. Do you price your pork the same way?

    Financial Paperwork--who does it?

Where are all the free calendars?LOL We've come across the same thing this year. Local grain elevator, Tractor Supply and our bank - no calendars. Thankfully, our church has plenty, Rural King gave us 3 (1 for my Dad), the butcher gave us one and an old friend, a butcher in our hometown, gave...

    How to Make Butter

I'm making the last of the cream into butter tomorrow. I hope we have enough in the freezer to last until one of the cows freshens. Tankshill, some of the smaller cows don't give all that milk. There's butter and the resulting buttermilk, sour cream, yogurt, mozzarella cheese, ricotta cheese...

    Dented and damaged cans...score!

Great bargains, Bee. Good thing you were able to take advantage of them. I know how those teen boys eat - I feed several of them from time to time. There's an Amish bulk food store (DD calls it the Amish Sam's Club) that has some dented cans and slightly smashed boxes real cheap. They also...

Advice, I'd rather not post this on BYC

Yep, I'm with dacjohns on this. Ours seem happy and they are healthy so that's good enough for me.

    Financial Paperwork--who does it?

Yes, I do my best to keep records. Not perfect I'm sure, but the best I can do. I'm just not good enough at the computer to sit and figure out how to put the records all together. All farm receipts go into a large envelope. All other receipts go in another. I have a separate calendar for...

Just got my canning lids in the mail!

What a deal! And it would be a time saver around here as sometimes they are hard to find. Many stores sell out - they haven't figured out the whole customer need/inventory thing yet. I get mine in the Amisha area and thought I got a bargain at $1.20 a box for small lids. Large were $1.69 I...

    Hawaiian Sweet Bread

This sounds good. Always looking for new bread recipes to try. I've made a Hawiia Sweet bread, but it uses pineapple juice to sweeten.

    Dacjohns--Changes

Can I ask what kind of saw? We had to take the plunge and purchase a new one this week. Cheaper than paying for lp gas.

    Bee~ Journal of then...

Bee, I do understand the "getting it" and I agree. Everyday, I'm thankful that we have that understanding. It's a blessing for sure. Wanting and needing are something that we've tried to teach our children. Sometimes, it's a gray area, but the answer usually becomes clear. I do believe...
