    Egg Hatching and Keeping Chickens

Last fall, I gave the neighbor the rickety mobile coop thing the previous owner left for us. The grandpa rebuilt and strengthened it, and they have a small flock. I now get to hear egg songs in the morning. If I can get the garden going, I will check to see if I can give trimmings to her to...

    2026 Resolutions

It turned out wonderful today. We worked in the basement. 3 bags of trash, one tote for donation, two totes of bedding getting donated at the county APL, Christmas stuff sorted and condensed, packed carload of cardboard recycling taken, and cleared out some of the clutter. Next for the...

    2026 Resolutions

The eldest is with us this weekend. The plan was to work in the garage. Only in the 40s today, still damp and wet. Not sure what we are going to do.

What did you do in your garden today?

    Penny pinching

My son, years ago, built a hydroponics system at school for a high school project. It did very well, but their sponsor teacher retired, and it was dismantled after 2 years. Now that he has his own place, he has plans to set something up. I did several gardens and worked full time, with 3 kids...

Also, used Lowe's gift card from the kids to help buy a new Dewalt cordless drill. I had been given new drill bit and screw bit sets already. Time to retire the Craftsman electric drill I have had since 1987 and the miscellaneous loose pile of drill bits collected over decades. No more...

What did you do in your garden today?

This weather... ugh. Exactly two stalks of asparagus from each crown. Need to buckle down and try to figure out what is wrong. Most of the plants in the butterfly garden appear to be returning.

Coffee's Ready, Come and Sit on the Porch

Had my latest wellness visit. Mostly green across the blood work items, except for iron and B12. Might explain the lack of energy that I was attributing to SAD with all this grey weather. Got a B12 shot, taking an iron supplement, and my PCP said to eat more steak.

    What's for dinner?

I went to a new sushi joint yesterday with my son and his wife. It's one of those places that have small plates winding through the seating area on a conveyer system and you pay by the plate or order via a tablet at the table. Cool place. In addition to some sushi, I had a spicy beef udon...
