    Improving cast iron skillets

I'm not really sure what it is other then it's flaky, and while some flakes off gently others are hard and can scratch my stove eventually. I've dropped stuff onto mine, glass, cast iron, never from more then a couple inches but it's never done any harm to the glass top. The enamel outside edge...

    Improving cast iron skillets

I never had a problem with scratches on my stove until I started using cast iron (some of my pans are in bad shape), and I slid things around a lot. Now I have a few scratches nothing bad. I even use a razor to clean off baked on stuff. When I first started using it I was afraid of scratching...

    At home births and midwives

I haven't had the need yet for either. But I will only do a hospital birth if there is a serious risk or complication. I'm thinking I might even go unassisted because here in Alaska a midwife is required by law to put those nasty drops in the babies eyes. The last thing I need is for my baby to...

I am cursed when it comes to making bread.

It could also be a lack of gluten, especially if you grind your own wheat.

Crown of Thorns Journal- Wood Cook Stove Challange

I created a group for Goat owners here in AK and now I'm dealing with I think the same issue. I'm not positive as I was on a break from FB when everything happened in the farm group but I know it involves the same people. But I'm definitely dealing with the one side "attacking" the other on my...

What movies and books inspired you to be Self Sufficient?

Little House on the Prairie and the Bible are top for me as well. But the biggest "inspiration" for me has been our current government and culture.

Can we talk about bread making?

Last time I made bread I placed it in a sunny window near the stove, and found kitty prints in my dough. Thankfully I always cover my rising dough with a towel! :ep

Can we talk about bread making?

When the fire in our stove is a little low I put a cooling rack that stands about 4 inches off the stove and place the bowl on that. When the stove is hot I stack two of those racks on top of each other and warm there. It works beautifully!
