I don't agree that you can just put another product in place of Coca Cola, Pepsi, FritoLay and so on. Brand loyalty, especially for soda, has quite a bit of weight. If Costco doesn't have the brand of soda someone wants, they will just go elsewhere. Costco is not the only place they sales...
Go to the CocaCola website - having a hardtime linking on this forum - and scroll through all their products. Pretty much half the beverages products - about 3,000 worldwide. Pepsi probably owns the other half plus Quaker Oats and FritoLay. It is also #73 on Fortune500, the largest soft drink...
Coke is much more than a soda company. They own quite a bit of food companies. If they stop selling their products at Costco it will be bad. If they are successful and other companies start making similiar demands it will be bad.
Or you can make your own oxiclean with hydrogen peroxide and washing soda. There is a study that shows spraying vinegar and hydrogen peroxide sequentially eliminates more pathogens than bleach and is much safer. Make sure not to combine them in the same bottle. Spray one wipe away and then...
Also, try and get a extra large dog crate. A spacious place to move around will make your chickens much happier and get them to calm down.
I wish I could give you advice on taming chickens. Mine were held from young chickhood. They do love to cuddle and sit on my lap watching television...
Make sure that your chickens have a solid bottom to stand on. Full grown standard chickens are too heavy and cut their feet on wire bottoms.
edited for typos
Dust? From where? I can see if they take dust baths and shake all over. I have one that is molting. When she comes in at night, a few feathers may fly around but that is about it. My chickens have almost no dander. Definately, not like a dog or cat.
You can make them a foot bath. Fill a shallow pan with water and have them walk through it. Also, make sure to provide them with a dust bath. They can roll around in it and groom themselves. Usually, I wipe them down with a damp cloth when they get poop on their backend. Baby or pet wipes...
I disagree that chickens are inheriantly smelly animals. Chickens are no smellier than indoor cats, rabbits, rats, finches or parrots. If you have proper housing and bedding, it shouldn't be a problem. Our chickens sleep indoors in a extra large dog crate. We put an absorbant bedding in the...
Ours died of Leukemia and FIV. Both were fixed but fought with unfixed males that had contracted disease from females. We did have a cat when I very that was hit with a baseball bat.
I like my cats indoors. Have low vet bills that make up greatly for the cost of food.
I agree with the vet. In fact, it was not just one vet but all veterinary professionals I have tlaked to about my cats. It make sense. Rodents are vectors for many diseases. Rabies is a big one that comes to mind. Most rodents are carriers.
BTW, feral cats have very short lives. They are...
My vet told me that rodents are bad for cats. They carry diseases that cats easily contract. Also, cats are far less efficient at removing toxins than humans. (Well, most animals are not as efficient.) Personally, I don't take the chance allowing them to eat wild or semi-wild animals. They...
I was thinking about this today. Very few of the active comments are about sustainable living.
As for arguing, it really doesn't bother me unless it is deeply personal. Such as someone attacking my religon, family or friends directly. General political/religous discussion though heated...
Sorry, if you feel beaten up. I don't think that was anyone's intent. All of us come from different backgrounds. We bring many persepectives to this forum. Sometimes they differ greatly and cause a heated discussion.
Do you rent? If so you can call the housing authority and start going through the process of getting them to get you landlord to fix your roof. I have a link if you need it.
If you own, there are few strategies. See if there is anyone that is willing to the work for little or no cost. All...
I say get some chickens anyway and keep them underground. Pretty sure, many people in your area already do this. Really, why do they outlaw chickens? Wouldn't be better to make them legal and regulate?
Also, get some good books on biointensive gardening and permaculture. There is so much...
Please don't take my post the wrong way. I was to say that those on the outside wrongly accuse others of being foolish when they have their own beliefs that others don't understand.
Sorry, quite a bit of people have a hardtime getting my meaning. I am working on improving.
