Ohiofarmgirl'sAdventuresinTheGoodLand-where ya been? whatcha been doin

Seriously, though, I do love me some tomatoes. Nothing like getting one out of the garden, blowing off the dirt, with some salt, juice running down your chin....yum. I haven't found any really good ones this year. Maybe next year I'll have the nerve to try to grow some.

Ohiofarmgirl'sAdventuresinTheGoodLand-where ya been? whatcha been doin

I usually just read (sounds better than lurk) and this is definitely a must-read blog and I just read the football comments and got so excited I forgot my password trying to sign in and comment. And now I can't remember who I wanted to quote and I don't know how to get back there but just let me...

    Baked okra?

It seems we like our food the way we grew up with it being prepared. My mother's fried okra was not crispy fried, it was not slimy, I guess the best way to describe it, is mushy. So, that's how I try to make it. She only lightly battered it with corn meal, and then put it in an iron skillet (a...

    Trespassing?

I don't know if this counts as a trespassing story or not, but it absolutely infuriated me. I live in a subdivision out of the city limits. In this situation, there had been a stray dog around for a couple of days - really big, friendly dog, looked like a St. Bernard and the people across the...

FarmerDenise's journal - full on harvest time = busy, busy, busy

I want some baby goats!!! I think they might not let me have them in my subdivision, but, wait, if I kept them in the house......no, I guess that wouldn't work, but they are SO cute, they are sweetness personified! I have always loved baby goats. After my husband died, I would sometimes drive...

Occamstazer~Work hairdos and a blog you've got to read!

That reminds me - I should thank YOU!! I visited your blog and from there went to the Daily Coyote - LOVE it, bought the book, and also now read Honey Rock Dawn and Into the West by Shreve's new assistant, Sarah, and from her (Shreve's ) site I found out about Stacey O'Brien and her book An Owl...

Old picture of my grandfather and his beloved chickens (maybe)

Yes, it was taken in Fayette County, Alabama. No, not German ancestors, but French. I'm going to try to figure out what year that was if I can. I have tons of old pictures like that, they came to me when my mother died a few years ago and she was pretty good about writing names and dates on...

Ideas for in person discussion group

Seriously. The client who told her that was not even in the medical profession. I'm sorry, I'm just not that trusting (or stupid).

Old picture of my grandfather and his beloved chickens (maybe)

I imagine they had as good a life as was possible in that day and time. I wish I could have known him. I do remember my grandmother and it's no surprise to me he spent so much time with his chickens. I did not like her and she did not like me. Sounds terrible, but oh so true.

Ideas for in person discussion group

Sorry to take this off the subject, but I couldn't resist after the poison ivy comment - a former coworker was told by a client the she should eat small "doses" of poison ivy to become immune to it - yeah, she ended up in the hospital with it in her bloodstream. DUH! And good luck with your...

    The stupidest expense. Ever.

If folks are offended by the sight of any body part of their pet, they don't need to have one. I just can't think of an appropriate word to describe how stupid this is. (IMO)

Old picture of my grandfather and his beloved chickens (maybe)

This picture was taken back in a time when they were poor, and you didn't just take a picture of anything, so that just shows how special they were to him. I wish it was in color, but........and notice he is holding one. I thought they were pretty big chickens.

Old picture of my grandfather and his beloved chickens (maybe)

I didn't know where to put this, so..... I found some really old picture of my grandfather with his chickens. He died when I was very small, so I never knew him. I can remember my mother talking about how he loved animals (maybe that's where I got it from) and especially his chickens. I know it...
