    Anyone hand wash their clothes?

I only have myself but I have more than one load a week- lights, darks, towels, sheets. There is no way I would take the time to hand wash and/or line dry them. Why spend 20 minutes hanging them outside when I can toss them in the dryer in seconds? Also, what happens to you clothes if it...

    Anyone hand wash their clothes?

I would not move into a place without a washer and dryer hookup. I am trying to imagine how much time it would take to wash my clothes by hand and what it would do to my hands. Eek. I would have a plumber come and put in a hookup and buy a washer and dryer. It would be worth it in the long run...

    Pricing Question

Well, I couldn't support a family on 5 bucks an hour, so if I am going to work, it is going to be for a living wage.

    Financial Advice Needed.......

The return is the form you file with the IRS. The refund is the money you get back. I agree that instead of letting the government take that money weekly, have his employer direct deposit that amount into a savings account. Don't have the account linked to your checking account, make sure you...

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

I just hear a lot of "us vs them" sometimes. Maybe I am mistaken, but it seems to me that people who like to watch television, or who dont' grow their own food are looked down upon here.

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

That may be true; but here again, we are talking about who is right and who is wrong; who has the better lifestyle. Some people prefer to work in an office and watch TV in their spare time; some people enjoy the challenge of wresting a living from the earth. Why does one have to be right and...

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

It's true. One is proud of their possessions and the other is proud of their humility. They both think they are better than the other. They look down on each other instead of celebrating their differences.

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

I think that people who brag about how much money they have and people who brag about how little they live on arent' really much different from each other.

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

Dirk- I think there are many different ways to do life. There is no wrong or right way. Each person has a personal preference, and that is a good thing. I don't believe that people who don't want to grow every morsel of their food are "slaves". They simply have other interests.

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

If everyone here were truly 100% self sufficient, none of us would be on this site. I don't think there is any way to generate your own internet connection- yet.

Is becoming Self Sufficient the new fad?

I NEVER saved money with my garden, especially the first year. My soil was thick red clay and I used to buy lots of amendments for it. BUT, I had amazing fresh vegetables without any pesticide residue. And I loved going out and being able to pick my salad, or my beans for dinner along with...

    Stealing produce by the truckload!!

I used to live in New Jersey and I thought it was normal to buy things out of the back of a truck or the trunk of a car, usually from a guy named Joey Fingers.
