Cheerio, I feed chicken to my chickens lol. I need to set up a bucket/trash can of some kind to remind me to put only the non-organic stuff in the real trash can.
I'll get the tiller out this week and start working on a place to have my compost pile! YAY
LOL so I have to actually pick up leaves and grass clippings from my yard??
Chaos, I started reading a little about it and figured it was WAY too involved for me to even try to attempt.
I think I got it!
-Pick a spot(edge of woods)
-Till up dirt
-Kitchen scraps(not meat I'm guessing)...
I'm not sure this is in the correct section but here we go.....
I feel like I'm behind because I don't compost and never have. I'm curious about it but don't want to mess up. Can you give me a simple crash course on how to start, what to do, what not to do, etc??
I feel silly asking but I...
BB I like the idea of making the food then canning it. Cooked tomatoes and I don't get along well at ALL. So I will be using them for salsa, guacamole, salads, etc.
I need to learn how to pickle! Once I master cucumbers my next goal is okra...I LOVE hot pickles okra but can't afford almost $4 a...
I also plan on growing leaf lettuce, I would never get through that many heads of lettuce. LOL
I do have a food saver....that might help with some of the other veggies.
See thats the stuff I really need to learn this winter.....storage.
I wouldn't have the slightest idea on how to even begin dehydrating something.
Can you freeze lettuce for storage? Whats the best way to store those plants for long term(4-5month) storage??
I'm glad to hear that lettuce is so easy. It looks like I should plant lettuce end of March when I plant the potatoes.
BarredBuff, the reason I want the tomatoes on the edge is last time I had tomatoes they TOOK OVER my garden. I was picking 50-70 ripe grape tomatoes off of 2 plants DAILY...
Jack, thanks for the tip I'll look at the website.
Deb, I'm sorry I forgot to include that information. I'm single, live in NC, and while I would mostly just like fresh produce I have a large chest freezer that I can store in. I have only had the traditional garden but would like to get the...
This year I have moved to a place where I can have more of a garden than the past. I normally get tomatoes/cucumbers/squash and thats the extent of my garden.
This year I have my chickens and more garden room. The problem is going to be fencing in the garden from the pesky chickens.
What I...
Could they be Olive colored?
If so this cross is in HIGH demand for this color....people seem to really like the Olive-eggers. Without looking it up...I'm about 95% positive that you cross a dark brown egg layer rooster(BCM, Barnevelder, Welsummer) with some EE to get OE......
Congrats!
Thanks for the welcome.
I don't think I currently have enough room but would love to keep them when I have a place big enough. My sister's neighbor keeps them for a living so I am sure I can get her help. :D
