How expencive is it in USA?

Hey CHEPO, you must have posted as I as I was typing. I can only say get the hell out of there.I had to go back to BC last year for 6 months or so. The cost of living is nuts! I left in 81 at the age of 18, and never looked back. Come to Alberta, at least a little more sane.

How expencive is it in USA?

Just thought I would add my 2 cents. first I am not American,or even living there but you could say I am more traveled than most of them in there own country and can say as some already have said there is not a fixed answer. cost of living and cost of housing and land vary greatly. Not just...

    fuel storage

If you are talking storage for large amounts go with diesel. In my eperience it stores better than Kerosene. The reason is they go the extra to remove sulfur from it, and I am certain they no longer go to the same effort with kerocene In fact kerosene is so bad now I can not burn it in my lamps...

Thanks Joel, but its not working. First yes I uploaded pics, then one of my pics that I did not delete dissapeared on me after it was uploaded. I cut and paste the pic into my post from my uploads, and get a error, incorrect key file. Tried a bunch of things, but its not working

For those who want to learn to Weld

Welding, one of the most usefull skills. I am self taught, so while I will throw out a few of the things I have learned, trust the advice of profesionals over mine any day. On equipment on the other hand I have good knowledge of and own most every type. As to welding for us beginner hobbiest...

    Wood Stove Project

real interesting, I would worry about the barrel burning through as the years go by. I think adding circular split baffels to make a screw type baffel around the outside surface of the inner barrel would aid in heat transfer. If the air travels around the outer surface of the inner barrel a...

    Heating with wood

Yes to ignite the smoke you need to run it hot. My cat is behind a perforated metal plate right at the front. I cut away the gasket holding it in place so I can easly remove it. 85% of the time I run the stove without it in place because I only need the stove runing at a minimum level but when...

    Heating with wood

I am roughly between Edmonton, and lloyd. Yes a lot colder. -40 shows its head each winter with -30 a frequent unwelcome vsitor. I do have good insulation, and such. That is a big thing in keeping the heat in. I too leave the basement unheated.

    Heating with wood

What I have found is the poplar heats well, no problem there, it just requires more of it. It leaves more ash, and very little creosote, next to none. Birch provides more heat, less ash, and more creosote than poplar. Tamarack, is my favorite, lots of heat, longest burn times, ash about the same...

    Heating with wood

Well I am new here but thought I would post on how I heat my home and stay warm through a Canadian winter. I have heated with most every type of wood heater in my time, but about 12 years back I bought a Blazeking fireplace, the smaller princes model. it came from the factory with a bi metal...

New here, but not to (more) self sufficient living

Sure, what would you like to know? and is this the right thread for that? I have looked at the topic headings, and dont see one for just wood heating. Maybe in the "do it yourself section"? or "how to save energy" I will start a thread there.

No, metal should not smell at all when heated, consider it inert (unless galvanized). I dont think it would be creosote as you use it so infrequently, hard to say what it is, maybe dust burning off the surface? that will give off a burnt smell

Anyone heating their greenhouse in Fall temps?

Great topic, I am new at the growing food things, only been experimenting/testing for a few years, and from reading the posts I suspect I am 4 or more hours drive north of moolie. I have a underground (more correctly below grade, but underground sounds more sinister) greenhouse fabricated from...

New here, but not to (more) self sufficient living

I do have pics, not the most organized guy, and often forget to take picks when building things, but if your interested I will throw up a few. like those heaters I found a lot of questionable, misleading info at the electrical end when I started down this path 10-15 years ago. I always question...
