First Duck Egg of the season!
Today I found the first duck egg of the season from my kids. Well, the first that I'm aware of anyway. Ever since the warmer weather has set in I've been letting all the birds back out to roam the farm and for all I know there is a stash of duck eggs sitting in...
Peshtigo here. Just outside of Marinette and 45 minutes north of Green Bay. We've got a 5 acre farmette and lots of poultry. I used to be from Wausau so I went from city boy to country boy in almost an instant. It's been interesting.
Okay, it was cute at first....
So last week was exciting when I found one pair of my pigeons had hatched a baby. I took it as a sure sign that spring was ready to break and there would be an end to all this cold and snow. Frankly we lost a lot of birds to the cold temps and a bronchial...

Lucky. Your weather sounds way better than mine. We just got a surprise 5 inches of snow dumped on us last night. Not counting drifts coming off the hay field. It's supposed to hit forty today, and tomorrow thunderstorms. That's spring in Wisconsin for you.
Sick though I may be I still had to go out and feed all the birds. To my surprise and excitement I found that the eggs Momma Homer had been sitting on hatched! Well, one hatched and the other was MIA for whatever reason. But there it was, the first birth of 2009 on the farm, all fuzzy and...
I am so sorry to hear about your goat kids. But form the way you explained it sounds as if you had no reason whatsoever to believe that there were kids in that pen. Don't beat yourself up too much. I hope you feel better.
Misery and excitement all wrapped in to one?
At work one of the boss's brothers is a holistic food and health guru. Self-professed. One day he was extolling the virtues of a garlic foot rub to help cure what ails you. He claims that a band aid smeared with garlic puree and applied to the...
Well, first of all, thank you everyone for your warm welcome that's very nice of all of you. I look forward to many journal posts in the future. There's a lot to cover of course, but I'll try not to bog you down with too many posts in rapid succession.
Sylvie I'll be glad to give detail by...
Hey everybody,
I'm starting the process of self sufficiency and decided to join the others in documenting my push.
I'm 28 years old and live with my hunny, our 2 dogs, my indoor cat, my outdoor cat, and close to 200 birds of different varieties. We just bought a five acre farmette about 1...
OMG! This would be so cool! Or, so warm. I have quite a few of the supplies already and could probably scrounge up the rest before next winter to give it a try.
I live in NE Wisconsin so it's pretty bitter up here in the winters and heating our farm house with propane is a total sore. A little...
