    Remedies for a smelly dog?

As FM said, you can use some EOs. I like to use lavender, peppermint and tea tree as my base EOs and I add lemongrass, bergamot and a drop or two of citronella - they help repel fleas/ticks/mosquitoes while making the dogs smell nice. I'm sure you can use baby wipes mixed that way, I mix them...

What did you do to save $ today?

Over the last couple of days we've been busy with $ saved projects/items: Recycled recycle bins into gardening planters. Not sure where the extra bins came from, I have 2 in use in the house for recycling but I found 3 more around the house not being used. Seeing as we can't afford to put...

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

It's finally starting to feel like things are coming together. Rec room is almost done. It's painted, wired, heated, just have to find something for the floor so keeping an eye open for something free. Picked up a pullout couch thanks to Freecycle. It's in really good shape considering it's...

I am having a lupus "pitty party". Do ya wanna come?

Wow miss_thenorth, other than the RA and low thyroid I would swear you were my sister! Her first diagnosis was of Sjrogens, then Raynauds, and then lupus to fibromyalgia to it could possibly be scleroderma (my mom had it) but they've never been able to give her a definite which has made the...

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

Wow it's been awhile since I posted to my journal. Everyone's doing well here. It's official, my oldest son is heading to British Columbia for University in August. He's been looking for a summer job for before April. Yesterday morning (7:30) the local provincial park called (he...

When do you replace your car?

Best thing to do is listen to your gut. That being said, I need to take my own advise...lol..cause my gut is telling me to sell my '92 4wd Dakota and get something else. There's nothing much wrong with the truck. We did the body work last year, runs good - always starts though the alternator...

How Did You Get to Today?

Rather than dream, the last 18 yrs have taught me to aim for goals, not dreams. Goals can be changed or altered when need be, dreams only crash and burn if you don't reach them and can take you down with them mentally/emotionally. At 18 I had what I thought was my future ahead of me - I was...

Vet Trip for heart worm Rx. Anyother ss way to deal with heart worms?

I don't use heart worm meds at all. Instead I get my dogs tested twice a year (Spring and Fall), and if they did contract heartworm, I'd treat them homeopathically for it with Paratox. I've never understood why bother treating the dogs with chemicals for a potential problem that will lower and...

    Anyone use Citronella?

I can't blame your dogs Bee...lol. I can't stand the smell of the citronella on it's own either. The mix I like using with Citronella is: one drop of citronella to two or three drops each (depends on how strong the citronella smell is still) of bergamot and cedarwood and two drops of...

    Mosquito repellent

We live in a heavily wooded area with lots of leaves on the ground in the woods (many vacant unkept lots) and we've always had mosquito problems. Two years ago I bought a product that is oil of garlic concentrate, you add water and then spray it around your yard making sure to get the...

Recipe to make clothes smell good?

I haven't tried this recipe yet. I've made it but then didn't do any more laundry..lol. I used a fragrance oil instead of the essential as I have on called Clean Linen (I love the smell!). I will be trying it today. Here is the recipe for those who want to try it! Homemade Fabric Softener...

    Dusting! Feather Dusters?

I use an old sock - one where the laundry monster got it's match. :) I make up a small batch of water and add some of my favourite fragrance or essential oil, ring out and use. I also use them for the corners and ceilings to wipe down. Then I just throw it in the wash to clean it.

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

First off...Happy Easter Everyone! This year dh and I agreed that it was time to cut back on what the kids get for Easter. They always get some sort of big basket from the Easter Bunny. The kids are 12 and almost 11. DH finally realized they don't need the "stuff" that comes in those...

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

I got to "unwrap" my first batch of soap this morning. And it looks like it turned out!! :ya I had added some lavender essential oil but I don't think I added enough, there is no smell but 'soap' smell. But for my first try I don't think it's to bad. I now understand how it can be...

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

Henrietta23 - thank you. They have their moments but we love them anyway. :) Gettinaclue - it wasn't that hard to make, of course dh tried to make it more complicated than what I wanted. It's longer than it should be for garden plants but I originally wanted it for my violets and leaves...

Breconbcs...On the path to Self Sufficiency

We had an active weekend but it sure doesn't feel like we got much accomplished. It snowed Friday night leaving a good dusting on the ground. Saturday we went to the local museum for their Easter Eggstravaganza. The kids had a good time, it was cold and wet but fun. We came home and I made...

Starting seeds is going to be the death of me.

For me it's been trial and error over the years. Last year I had better success with the peat pellets I used so this year I went will a mix of peat pellets and coir pellets which are pellets made from coconut fiber - I was testing out the coir ones - to grow my perennial/annuals and veggies...
