@treerooted, I have no idea! We have lived here for 10 years and just over the last few have we been seriously thinking about pushing to be more self sufficient. Still doing the math/research, but I know that I will need a crap ton of green beans for the kids LOL (they love them and eat them...
Your list is so much more detailed! Adding sewing to my list, especially for the kids (they outgrow everything so fast). And planting the 25 native pine trees that we ordered LOL.
We do the standard extra hay since that digesting it is what produces heat for horses. Our horses are part dessert rats and are very fuel efficient, so they don't get grain. They have access to a shelter and a round bale 24/7. Chickens and ducks get their boxes and coops stuffed full of hay...
Our goal is to grow enough veggies (that we eat...no more spaghetti squash) to put up to last the winter. We have plans to build a root cellar and test out hydroponics too. That being said..I'm glad we will have help this year.
The area I live in has a few homeschoolers, and there is one co-op, but we don't fit in with it. At least he has been in cub scouts this whole time and getting ready for his first year of boy scouts. I wish more people would be less afraid to give home education a try (though it isn't for...
I educate at home! I have zero other friends who do :/ (something about not having the patience..LOL). My son is 10 and daughter is 3. He was in public school for kindergarten and that was it, we have been homeschooling since then..just us.
We use Mint. It's listed in the link that MoonShadows posted. I like it because we (unfortunately) have a lot of debt still and Mint keeps track of everything money related all in one app. We have been using it for almost 6 months now. It has really helped open my eyes as to where it all goes...
@tortoise lol, their own garden is a great idea! I'm in zone 6a according to the map, but we have to start later than most due to spring is either freezing, or pouring flooding rains, then summers are dry and HOT. I think it was just luck LOL
My "other " is tea tree oil and coconut oil (unrefined). Not local, but it works great on skin issues. I have freakishly sensitive skin on my legs to where even unscented eczema lotions burn, but the coconut oil does not. Cleared up some acne with the tea tree oil and we use it on cuts...
So many great lists and ideas here! Now I have to re-do our list...darn, LOL. We have a few rasied beds that my husband built two summers ago. They are awesome! Banana peppers were our most prolific harvest last year, so we will for sure do that again. We have a friend who will be joining...
Sure! My family and I have a small bit of land with horses, chickens/ducks. We plan on expanding our garden plots by a thousand this coming spring (not really a thousand...but a lot lol). I home educate our kiddos and like to do as much from scratch as I can. We are wanting to be able to be...
