    Rice weevil mayhem.

For real?!? I bought a zebra print bolt remnant many years ago on impulse but haven't known what on earth to do with it. This is too funny. I will have to do something to try it.

    shortages

It might be a good idea to learn how to use cloth diapers now, before shtf. Also, I have become leery of plastic and other mysterious chemicals in modern products. It can be absorbed by our skin. Of course, it can be difficult or impossible to eliminate plastics from our homes. Still, every bit...

    Rice weevil mayhem.

We made a pop door in the side of the coop that faced the goat pens and started letting the chickens out into the goat yard in the morning. So now, we have 2 enclosed, but separate areas for the chickens. We can rotate the chickens in these areas, kind of like pasture rotation, and let them...

    Rice weevil mayhem.

We don't use chemicals here, either. I had barn flies tormenting my poor goats a few years back. They bite and it REALLY hurts. The flies, not the goats lol. We started turning in the chickens into the goat yard, and now there are way fewer biting flies. I wish i could find a natural solution...

    Living Local

I try to buy local but the closest feed store is 16 miles from here. The closest town is 8 miles. Small, expensive grocery store, so I usually drive the 23 miles to the nearest town that has grocery stores, feed, and best of all-my Mom. Other than feed, farm supplies, gasoline, groceries, and...

    2021-22 Cold Winter

Actually it was -35 that day. Scared me because the power was out for only 12 hours.

    2021-22 Cold Winter

I'm not sure if this winter will be bad, but we're getting heating pellets for our stove, and the propane tank is full. Also have small propane heaters and fuel for them. Ever since the 12-hour power outage in January of 2019 when temps here sank to -28, I get concerned.

    Help me identify this shrub!

This shrub grows along my road and I am going crazy trying to identify it! It's an unassuming and plain shrub about 6 feet tall, growing along the road at the edge of a forested area near a lake. The photo shows what I assume is a seed capsule or dried flower or fruit. It sort of reminds me of...

What did you do in the garden today?

Took Beau and Luke, our little buckling goats, with me to the garden. They were really enjoying themselves! Of course they had to find the asparagus, so I took them back to their pen. Husband is making raised beds using pallets we got a few weeks ago for free. So far he's made 4 of them. We're...

    Feed prices

Thank you for sharing your song with us! Many of us need hope. In your song I hear a spiritual tone of guidance for our lives; that there is a light for us to walk by as we navigate through this darkness over our beloved nation.

    Seed for 2021

We're saving seed from winter squash and pumpkins. Also saved seed from several wild plants we forage, including ramps, pigweed, lambsquarters, etc. Probably gonna need a bigger storage container😁
