I'd like to get some real insight from women who are in the military reserves. I'm interested but not interested in taking away from my childeren. One weekend a month and 2 weeks a year, is fine but actually leaving my childeren for long periods of time would be too hard. They are used to me being here (home) 24/7. I am here for thier every need. I would like to know how other mothers handle this.

Sorry not me. I'm waiting till my kids are a little older and I will join the volunteer firefighters in town or emt's or something like that. Currently my husband does that, but we can't BOTH be running off at odd times.

I'm not a mother but I have some insight.

Two weeks a year and a weekend a month doesn't sound bad. The reality though is that you are not immune from extended deployments to places like Iraq. You're talking a year plus in a war zone.
