anyone use the bay leaf method?

I guess you put bay leaves in the bucket with the flour or rice and that prevents bugs...

would I get a good shelf life with bay leaves and flour or rice in a food grade bucket with regular lid or do I need all of that fancy equipment in order to get some things to store for several years and not worry about?

thanks

I don't know about long term storage, but since we've been adding bay leaves to our can of animal grains, we haven't been getting moths in there.

The purpose of using bay leaves is to help to keep the creepy crawlers out of the grain.

I normally put some inside the Mylar bag as well as on top of the Mylar bag once I seal it.

Check on-line and buy the bay leaves in bulk, its a whole lot cheaper than buying it by the oz at the local store. I forget how much it cost me for a pound when I bought some in Dec but I think that it was like $10 a pound, maybe less.

What fancy equipment are you referring to? Mylar Bags? Oxygen absorbers? They dont cost that much and are cheap insurance.
