I got this in an email this morning:

I wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you tend to give
gift cards
around the holidays, you need to be careful that the cards will be
honored after the holidays. Stores that are planning to close after
Christmas are still selling the cards through the holidays even
though
the cards will be worthless January 1. There is no law
preventing them
from doing this. On the contrary, it is referred to as 'Bankrupcy
Planning). Below is a partial list of stores that you need to be
cautious about.

They had a story about gift cards on our local news channel. They did not mention that stores going bankrupt and closing were still selling cards, so that is very interesting.

They did have a list of reasons why it was probably not the best gift. I have to agree. I got one from an out-of-state relative for a store I've never heard of. That isn't to say there isn't one in my state, but I just didn't have the interest in tracking it down. Luckily it was only about $10, but still.

For the drivers in our family, we usually give gas cards.

For the teens, Walgreens cards - they use them for makeup, nail polish, shampoo, socks, that kind of stuff.

For the younger kids, Borders/Walden/Barnes&Noble cards. That way they can pick up their favorites.

Question, being stores are sometime local only i was wondering if they meant Movie Gallery instead of Movie Galley because if its Gallery im out of movie renting loop. they are the only one. And is it Lowe's cause that is the nearest to me and its never busy it could be on the chopping blocks. Just asking.
