Blizzards

A blizzard warning is effect where I live starting at 4pm today (Thursday, December 22nd), until 7am Saturday.

After being properly prepared, what are your favorite activities to do when hunkered down?

For me: Watching the snow fall and being thankful for being home!

Make healthy comfort food such as stew, bake cookies, probably clean the house (although definitely not my favorite). Read a book.

Pretty much homebodies here too. I hope to bake a batch of cookies and make some Christmas Crack for my son. But, there won't be a lot of sitting around. I'll be in and out constantly (brrrrrr!) checking on critters, stuffing hay racks, hauling water....etc. Thank goodness I don't have to do that all winter long!

Lots of extra snuggle time with the kids under the blanket on the couch--books, movies, board and card games.

We try and make something in the oven and then when it is done cooking turn the oven off but leave the door open for a little extra heat.

We are homebodies by default, so nothing special for us. The wife stays glued to the weather channel, lol.

Pretty much animal care, feeding, checking🥶....me, staying inside otherwise. Probably bake cookies. Have a turkey thawing in frig, will cook that sat or sun. May take a couple naps. 😁🤔

My forecast looks like 2-3 more cold-cold days and then back to normal. So far everyone is doing okay. I've been worried about my frizzle rooster who doesn't have access to a heat lamp. He's doing okay though.

So DD salvaged the trip. Today they are renting a car and going up to Orlando. They want to go to Universal Studios, but I recommended very highly to go to the Johnson Space Center (is that even its name anymore). Its fabulous!! I hope they go.

At least that's close to a silver lining! Glad they're getting something positive out of the trip!

No worries here. The wife's family, though, have spent the past two days due to the ice. Glad we stayed home

i snuck one of those in this afternoon. got up and cut up some apples so we can eat them over the next few days.

mostly for me it is the usual reading and writing and puttering around on projects. nothing serious at all. Mom watches tv and we talk back and forth at times. i don't think anything is on tonight that she'll watch so she'll get a dvd out and put that on.

i'd like a nice book to read for a change so perhaps i'll see if i can find one i want to read.

someone hit the corner very hard last night. i heard a loud explosion and thought that someone blew up their house. perhaps it was the airbag going off?

it took an hour and a half for the wrecker and police to get there and another hour or more to get them out of there. during the early stages i heard people yelling but i wasn't sure if they were yelling to be heard or yelling at each other. figuring that alcohol was likely involved i didn't go out to check on them. i used to do that if it seemed like a bad wreck just in case someone didn't have a working phone or needed immediate help, but i've been burned by drunk people enough times that i don't go out there any longer. too much of a risk and besides it was really miserable out there last night.

for several years we'd have a wreck at this corner almost every weekend in the winter usually the same thing that people coming down the road would forget they needed to stop and turn left or right and so they'd hit the ditch and sometimes go off into the farm field or down the dirt access road a ways before stopping. it was so bad that i called the county road commission to see if they would put in more signs and a speed bump to remind people that it was time to slow down to stop...

it's a straight shot from the bar two miles down the road and then the first turn that people have to make... often foggy. the other thing is that you come along the road and there's a bit of a hill which blocks the view of the corner until you are over it and if you're going too fast for conditions you're sunk at that point as you won't slow down in time. snowy or icy, nope, you're sunk...
