Oh, forgot the OP. Sorry.

If it is an egg eating hen, then fill empty egg shells with grape koolaid or cheap grape soda - anything with artificial grape flavor. Chickens and other birds react to it like we mammals react to hot pepper.

They love real grapes, but artificial grape will drive them away from anything.

Could you fill a fake egg with something that would leave traces all over the offender? Like a dye pack that banks use - except for bad birdies in this case :D

geesh, I would think grape koolaid would also stain the chickens and serve as a handy id for egg eaters.

I have never heard of grape koolaid - seems like it would just run out of the egg as soon as you cracked it and make a mess? how does it work?

javamama, have you tried it? would grape jelly work?

No I haven't tried it. I don't know what would leave the best stain. I guess it depends on what color the chickens are.
