My cats killed a juvenile copperhead and left it for me (yes - the same cats that have killed 5 bats lately).

Before I cleaned it up, the chickens ran off with it.

Just kind of wondering -- do you think it's ok to eat eggs now? I'm guessing if there is any poison, it will kill the chicken before it lays posionous eggs. What do you think?

Inchworm, tired of cleaning up the carnage :(

Eggs would be okay. Our chickens we had while I was young ate every copper head we threw in the pig pen....would fight the pigs for them and run away with the snake dangling. No ill effects for the chicken or us when we ate the eggs. :)

The poison is denatured by going thru the digestive system, and the babies haven't got all *that* much of it anyhow (not that they can't make you pretty miserable if you get bit by one, but, you know)

So as long as it doesn't kill the chicken, it won't kill you from eating the eggs either :)

Good luck, at least you know you have 1 less copperhead now,

Pat
