IDK guys... It's Jan 17 and looks like my Turkey hens are about to go into lay. I noticed my Tom displaying over the last few days and don't ever recall my Tom displaying this early, let alone mating.

There is a Balm of Gilead tree in this area, but I don't know it. It's fragrant, and a google search states: Uses: Resin from the buds is antibacterial, antifungal, and mildly analgesic. Balm of Gilead resin is an ingredient in cough syrups and first-aid salves, used to heal small wounds, cuts, and scrapes. Preparation: Buds can be placed into warm olive oil, animal fat or alcohol to extract the resin.

Sounds like I need to find a Balm of Gilead tree, and make use of it.

One of my hens went broody a week ago, but she is a silkie so that odd to be expected 😂

The Eurasian-collared Doves are starting to sing, but they might do this every year. However, I did hear and see a Lesser Goldfinch make singing yesterday, and that is definitely unusual! The weather in February might be warm this year, but I think it will still be rainy and slushy.

But, as one poem says: Whether the weather be fine, or whether the weather be not. Whether the weather be cold, or whether the weather be hot. We'll whether the weather, whatever the weather. Whether we like it or not!

Same here with fruit trees, 2 yrs in a row! :( :hit

Now I am not fond of cold but, do it and get done.....not up and down. I would be ok with warm and stay. 😁

At least one of my hens is fixing to go into lay. Again... Never seen them go into lay this early before, it's only 20th of January.

Our shepherd seems to be starting to shed also ... he is going to freeze his tail off come February.
