You might check and see if your washer smells like that itself. I had a toploader, and noticed it most with the towels. The instant they got damp, they stunk! I started noticing it on other stuff, too. I tried all kinds of different stuff, till I realized the washer had that same smell, empty. I did some research, and found out that a lot laundry soaps leave soap scum residue, and that starts making your clothes stinky. I think it took running an empty load with hot water, then one with hot water and lots of bleach, and then another with hot water. It got rid of the smell, and it didn't come back. Hope that helps!
