Foods that increase inflammation?

I seem to be having some issues with some kind of inflammation in various and sundy locations: Plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis, diffuse subcutaneous inflammatory nodules (hundreds), ischial bursitis, joints of the right hand to the point I cannot use my index finger some days, and the pinkie finger likes to fold under my hand. So basically, this is both feet, whole body soft tissue notules the size of cherry pits, right hand and "sitter downer bones". Some days it is particularly bad and I can't do just a whole lot.

Wifezilla mentioned in another thread that peanut butter causes inflammation. And of course we have Abi's thread in this section.

I take four ibuprofen a day, which isn't as much as some take but it is still more than I want to take.

These symptoms came on over the winter. I have had some aches and pains for years, but the past six months have been quite a bit worse.

It is entirely possible that I am exacerbating the inflammation by eating the wrong foods. I am a big eater of peanut butter, for example. Well, until today that is.

I have no problems with gluten, and the only negative reaction I KNOW OF is with milk. Yogurt seems to be helping that.

I need some advice on what foods promote inflammation, and what foods or supplements relieve it. Anyone? Anyone?

I am sure that someone much more knowledgeable than me will come a long.....but in the meantime:
Sugar and refined carbs (bread, pasta tortillas, cereal etc.) contribute to general inflammation.

I hope you find some solutions and can get to feeling better :hugs

Yep yep. Auntie Zilla told me about the peanut butter so scratch that :hit

I like almond butter more but it costs more LOL!

And Dace hit the biggie: refined foods. Sugars. Carbs (refined are worse because they create inflammation on their own too, but all carbs create insulin and insulin adds to inflammation). Vegetable oils (nut oils, olive oil, and meat greases are good though). Meat from animals fed sugars and grains (it turns their fat into vegetable oils instead of nice proper animal fats) - this one has me frustrated cuz completely grazing cattle cost much much more than nasty feed lot cattle LOL).

Drink lots of water. :D Apple cider vinegar definitely helps.

I do all this and I'm still getting more inflammation than I can handle LOL. Less than I had though! By lots.

I'd go in for a nice massage, if you are getting those soft tissue nodules. Find someone who knows myofacial releases. I get those too. And the only thing that really works on them is massage. And then gentle exercise (like slow stretchy yoga, long meandering walks) and stress release keeps them down for a bit longer than anything else :D

Mmmmm I wonder when I can next afford a massage....

I don't know whether they asue inflammation, but people with arthritis should avoid nightshade vegetables. Maybe something to look into.

Thanks for your help, everyone.

I probably should have added that I am a Type 2 diabetic and am careful about carbs. I used to be a fanatic, but I became very ill and had to add them back in. Mostly in the form of things like oatmeal, the occasional potato, and fresh fruits and veggies. I eat very little bread and almost no refined sugar at all. Jams are sugar free, and I use some honey, but not much because of the cost.

Nightshades: Since I do eat potatoes, I will have to cut them out for a while and see if that helps.

The pea-sized nodules are everywhere and they are very painful to touch. They are not in the ordinary trigger point areas such as is seen in fibromyalgia.

I don't have insurance and thus don't have a doctor. And our family is filled with people who greatly enjoy poor health. I HATE THAT! So, I don't talk about health issues much. Only two family members (the really healthy ones) know that I am diabetic (almost 10 years now). I am explaining that in case I sound at all whiney or anything. It's uncomfortable for me to talk health issues.

I don't have insurance either, so I'm in the same boat. Try to do all I can with diet :)

Do you soak your oats overnight? I'd definitely cut the potatoes. Try to make sure the veggies you pick are on that anti-inflammatory list...

The little cysts sound extremely disconcerting and uncomfy! My ex got cysts like that, but never painful. Never did find out what they were from. Do you do any detoxing? I'm not sure if it would help, but maybe a couple days detox to clear the system?

I don't think they are cysts. They are too deep. I am a fat woman, and panniculitis is a consideration, because they all wax and wane at the same time. They don't come to the surface like panniculitis, though, and they are not hot and I am not feverish when they exacerbate. As painful as they are, they might be partially involved in the nervous system. I just don't know, and from the 32 years I have worked as a transcriptionist, I have never heard of anything like it.

I think changes are on the horizon.

you need a mad doctor who just wants to study people, too, huh? that's my big hope to truly discover what's wrong with me. even good insurance wouldn't help much LOL.
