I always thought rice would swell and rupture their organs... like they say happens to pigeons. Maybe that's just a myth...

Excellent post! Thanks for putting up that link and I may borrow it for another forum I post on.. We've had the whole grain vs. cracked or ground grain for feeding chickens before.
While I feed whole grains to my birds I do mix them so that they are not getting only one type.. too much corn makes them too fat!

I would probably try it if I had more rice than I could eat before it went bad- but I would mix it with some crumble or pellet if you have it, and maybe some black oil sunflower seed, in a large trash can. You could add warm milk to each serving to make a mash.
