Anyone have any experience starting grapes from cuttings? I think that I might be able to get about 10-15 cuttings in the next week or so. I read that I can put them in a dirt flat (or in the ground, but that won't work here, lol) and put them back outside until spring. Anyone have any experience, advice, dos and don'ts? Tips on transplanting?

I got a couple of cuttings about a month ago and planted them in pots to get them started. One of them is putting out leaves, but the second one didn't make it. I'm really thrilled that the one made it though. It's called a Bronx Seedless- supposedly a Concord hybrid (but seedless?).

Our order came in from tyty. 2 year old grape vines just breaking dormancy with buds swelling on the main trunk. The trunks are a lot larger in diameter than what you see at the stores. The roots were packaged in hydrogel and wrapped tight in a plastic bag. The box they sent them is was something I never seen before. It has two inserts to hold the vines in suspension and handles to carry the box. It took tyty 2 days to process the order but shipping was quick, 1 day, actually less than 24 hours. My wife and I planted them less than 4 hours after receiving them. I planted them leaving the graft about 2 inches above the soil. They are supposed to have a vigorous root system. Praying they all take off and shoot up vines and are long lived 👍

what variety is it? some will not survive unless grafted to native root stock.

if by chance they are a native variety then you can stick cuttings in the ground with enough nodes in the damp soil. keep them covered if it is warm so that they won't dry out and some of them should root. located in a shady spot that gets indirect light until you see new buds come out then gradually move out into where they will get more light to adapt them.

They will be concord grapes, my sister has them at her house and I would get them from her
I would guess those would need to be grafted onto a hardier root stock.

You can try it out... but the roots will probably be more susceptible to mold, fungal diseases etc.

With grapes (and apples, and pears, etc) they breed one variety for super hearty roots... but it has unimpressive fruit... and they grow a DIFFERENT variety for wonderful fruit. Then they splice the 2 kinds together!

So.... if you have great soil, with low chance of rot, fungus, whatever other root horrors..... the concord cutting, on its own roots, might work fine.

Give it a try... There's nothing to gain if you don't give it a try.

I have a little encouragement for you. A neighbor up the road where we used to live had both white and purple concord grave vines that he started the same way you are. We picked the vines for 3 years and my wife canned grape juice with the whole grapes, water and a little sugar. Which we shared with him and his wife. I really miss that grape juice, so delicious. Welches had nothing on her. She also made grape jelly from the concord grapes which was delicious and we shared the jelly also. How's that for a little encouragement? OK?

That is wonderful encouragement! I am getting the cutting next week and am going for it. I am starting with 6 and hoping 3 take.

Anyone got any experiences with TyTy? They seem to have great ratings in the comments section and the prices seem good also.

Along with Concord and Nigeria. I just about got farm babe talked into Merlot and Pinot Chardonnay. She says but we rarely drink wine. My answer is but we should have a little wine a few times a week. Not to get drunk but for health. Plus I would enjoy stomping them to ferment. 😂

I have not but you have directed me to yet another site for shopping ;)! I will have my DH send you a thank you note :gig

On a serious note I will check it out. I got grape cuttings from my sister started and have an order on Ebay (not my favorite) that I am contemplating but TyTy might be a better choice
