I went shoe-boot shopping yesterday. I didn't find anything that fit, was comfortable, or breathable, or reasonably water-resistant on the bottom 2 inches, or didn't have a heel. I'd really like ALL of these features. (Is that too much to ask for?)

I'm scheming to make shoe-boots out of wool and a flip-flop sole.

Has anyone tried making shoes? Any insight?

I've seen some crocheted shoes made with flip flops but they would not be very sturdy more of a house slipper. I imagine they would be very comfortable.

Someday shoe/boot making might make a good bartering skill.

Moccasins of the patterns used by the Plains tribes would be a useful shoe/boot. Unlike those of the forest-dwellers, they used hard soles to protect the feet from the stony ground. Waterproofing should pose no hardship, and they can be made to fit your feet exactly.
