How much of a netted large round hay (5x6 approx 1700 lbs) does a mature goat or sheep consume per day or week or month? Trying to estimate head count, I figure on average the pasture would be frozen for a maximum 6 weeks.

Thanks

I have 14 - 17 goats eating on a round bale at any given time. My bales are probably in the 1500 lb range and most of my bales last at least 3 weeks. Some last longer if the pasture is good. Ground doesn't freeze solid around here and we generally have a little something they can munch in the pasture pretty much year-round.

So you have free choice hay all year long?
