I've read a bunch of reviews of the flannel fabric my mom bought for me, and many people said the dark colors run quite a bit.

Does anybody use vinegar to set color? The Vinegar Institute website says to soak fabric in white vinegar... Just plain straight vinegar though? Won't that be a bit harsh?

Any suggestions?

When I was a teenager, and I got a new pair of black jeans, my mom would fill up the washing machine, and add lotsa vinegar, and let it soak for a while. She said it helped the colour not fade as fast.

I always use white vinegar to set the color on new blue jeans and red clothing. I just add a whole lot of it to the washing machine and wash the item seperately (no soap) I add probably about 2 cups of vinegar. Let it soak a while in the vinegar as others have stated.

ETA We haven't had pink men's socks or pink men's underwear in years ;)
