My husband has got a job after 2 loooonnnng years with out any real employment... we are so happy, but have we learned to budget

No TV, just movies or reading. (TV really lowers IQ honest!) We have learned to barter and I have chickens. I will use the chickens and egg money from bartering for my "extras" No eating out
(only rarely) no new clothes, buy resell (except underware and socks!, shoes) purchase resell or trade for what I need.

We are going to buy an annuity, (can't pay down the mortgage, we are in chapter 13 bankruptcy...) fix up the property, fencing and put in a small pond..... If the land increases in value (we have a few acres) then we can sell our home for the retirement in 10/15 years.. I do not think the stock market, Soc security, or even traditional money will exist then......

By bartering I have gotten much more than just cash and LOTS of people want layer chickens, we eat the roosters, sell the hens and eggs. Its working. This is all I can think of to suppliment my paycheck as an insurance agent... the commissions are down in this economy.......

good for you!

i was just telling something that i'm avoiding all the financial brouhaha and putting all my money in chickens
;-) (just kidding)

we love this kind of thing too

and yes, doesnt turning off the tv give you a different picture of things?? we only get 3 channels (thanks digital tv) and so we dont get any of the cable stuff other than the few shows we watch online. i dont know about you but the more i see of 'pop' culture the uglier it looks.

good work on the bartering!

Now I'm convinced I have ADD!!! I don't have a TV, but I read one book while listening to the other. Not all the time, just when one is boring and the other exceptional :D

I used to watch TV and do my physics homework. My boyfriend at the time had to have it totally quiet. He could not understand how I could watch cartoons while working and get an A while he struggled in silence and got a C. It used to really make him mad. I couldn't concentrate if it was too quiet. My brain would drift off. :D My suggestion that he watch cartoons was not appreciated. (Gee I wonder why we broke up?)

thats pretty funny. i'm trying to convince my hubby that having a quiet mind is a good thing...at least sometimes! he loves audio noise and after all these years i finally thought myself to work in quiet. our solution - headphones

;-)

but anyway - back to bartering...

after these stupid pigs go off the their reward (ham heaven) i'm going to have over 20 eggs a day!! so i think i'm gonna go out and make new friends with all these egg-stra eggs.

Congrats on a steady job....those are hard to find now and depending on your location, sometimes impossible now.

Last I read Social Security SHOULD be ok up to 2037. But of course that date could sure be wrong. I am hoping like heck it is real and I get my SS. I will be needing it definitely!

batering is a great old timey solution to alot of pesky problems

remember too, instead of just items, bartering your time is just as good.

Ditto! I watched a TON TON TON of TV as a kid... to think what I could have accomplished had I not spent so many years of my developmental years in front of the TV.
